I never watched the DBZ series, but i'm watching it now on Youtube. I watched the original Dragon Ball on YTV, and there's something confusing that I don't understand.

spoiler[Why is Piccolo alive? didn't Goku kill him in DB? Or is it Piccolo Jr?? Either way Goku killed both of them in Dragon Ball, so why is he alive now and helping Goku?
]

If I'm going to find out later in the series, how far do i find out? Try not to spoil much.

spoiler[Goku let him lived because if he bit the bullet, so will Kami. Piccolo Jr = Piccolo in the Dragonball Z/GT series. Demon King Piccolo = Piccolo in Dragonball]

But the spoiler free way to find out is to go the store, get the last box set of Dragonball and the box set of the first Dragonball Z box set. That way, you can find out the answer to this question and more. Besides, watching licensed anime on YouTube gives you herpes. It's true.

You know you've reached a new low in anime fandom when you find yourself downloading freaking Dragonball Z. Rolling Eyes

Next time, don't mention where you obtained your illegal episodes from. Or even better, go buy the DVDs.

I forgot who Kami is...can someone explain who he is? I'm sure I'll remember.

Kami is that alien from Namek that lives in that "castle in the sky" thing on Earth. Sorry, I can't be more specific, but I haven't watched DBZ in a long time so I forgot a lot of the stuff about it. I think he has something to do with the original Dragon Balls on Earth--like he made them--or he made the dragon that guards them--or he picked the number of wishes you get when you collect the Dragon Balls on Earth (on Earth, you get 1 wish)--or something.

Later on, spoiler[he fuses with Piccolo and Dende comes from Namek to take his place as the guy who lives in the "castle in the sky" thing. Then, Dende makes new Dragon Balls--or a new dragon--or something, and he changes the number of wishes you get. With Dende, on Earth, you get 2 wishes, instead of 1, as with Kami.]

I'm not totally sure, but I think that's it. Hope that helps. Very Happy

Guardian of Earth, IE: If things get out of hand and no one can save it, that person/being steps in. Becasue Piccolo is half of Kami, Kami can not kill him, because is not allow to kill himself. If you had finished Dragonball, that fact would have been pretty clear. That's why Kami tried to get Goku to kill him.

Here is the whole story with Piccilo from the end of DB to the beginning of DBZ... don't read if you haven't seen

Kami was the guardian of the Earth. He ran away from Namek and crashed on Earth. He also created the Dragonballs. Piccolo was once a part of Kami (his evi side i.e. his bad impulses and malaciousness) and Kami expelled Piccilo from his body. That Piccolo became Evil King Piccilo. Goku defeats him and before he dies he spits out an egg. That egg turns into Piccilo Jr. and that is who Goku fights in the World Tournament. Kami wanted Goku to kill him and rid the world of his evil, but Goku wanted to fight Piccolo again when they both got stronger and allowed him to live. At the beginning of DBZ Piccilo was still evil but helped Goku with Radditz because he was the bigger threat. After the fight Piccilo took Gohan to train him in order to fight the next saiyans who were coming (Vegeta and Nappa) and it was Gohan who turned Piccilo into a "good guy".

Especially since FUNimation is going to relaunch the whole DBZ series as DVD "season" boxsets starting in Q1 2007.

Really,
While I am always quick to point out what is wrong with DBZ, I still love it and I am interested in this. Any info.

I'm guessing it'll be the uneditted version they were showing on CN a while back. Which is cool, but I'm not enough of a superfan to shell out $ for boxsets

I guess it depends on the price. But it is something I have wanted but never had. Mainly because my roomates had them back in college.

http://www.rightstuf.com/news/news.shtml

From the Right Stuf homepage:
"Dragon Ball Z Season 1 Box Set delayed"

"Sorry DBZ fans, but we've just received word from Funimation that they're postponing the release of their upcoming Dragon Ball Z Season 1 box set. No release date is currently available, but fans can look forward to more news early next year."

From Funimation:
"We will re-announce this title with a new release date in Quarter 1 2007, and there will be other major announcements concerning the property at that time. These season sets are being enhanced and restored, and many new features are being added. Runtimes and packaging will also be different."

So... us DBZ fans are thinking they might have gotten ahold of the DragonBox masters, in which the video & audio are remastered from the film negatives (it looks WAY better than FUNi's old DBZ footage)...

But... very promising news. I guess we'll actually find out when FUNi puts out some information on it.

Wow, if they really released DBZ box sets, depending on the price, I might actually get them. Originally, I didn't plan on getting them because it'd cost way too much to buy the individual DVDs.
