Apparently, they pick up the most "unique" anime forum messages, which can be read at http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=1698.

SA itself may be a reasonable site most of the time, but its forum-goers take everything SA says (and claims as satire) and turns it into hate-speech. I've seen more than one friend assulted by the forum monkeys, and, quite frankly, it takes a LONG time to recover from their assult. What's worse is, I've seen friends pushing the SA forum-goers on to wreck havoc in the person's real life.. that's a trauma I think everyone can do without. It's about on par with LJDrama.org, IMO. What SA (or LJDrama) says itself might not be "hate speech", but what their groupies say and do almost certainly is.. LJDrama and SA are merely the gateways through which hate speech (and action) flows. |

The only board I recognized from that mess were the official Adult Swim ones, which are a long acknowledged pit of hell. A few of those messages also highlight why I generally don't talk much about how I think Inuyasha is actually a mediocre show, because some of the fans are outright insane.
And I imagine there are a lot of people who have instantly decided that all anime fans are whiney lunatics who fly off the handle if someone so much as looks at anime crookedly. I've seen that belief before. But still, idiots are funny. |

I believe it was Penny Arcade that said, "Once you turn 16 you get your driver's license and are issued a forum account at Something Awful.".
SA can be amusing at times but the "ha ha the internet has stupid stuff on it" gets old to me very quickly. I check the site maybe once a month for my dose of 'net moron jokes and then leave. I think Portal of Evil is a little better, since the forum isn't QUITE so vitrolic. SA's forum is little more than a ravenous army of children who can't really do much aside from irrationally hate something. I mean, I can only see the website where the crazy stupid lady blogs from the perspective of her cat so many times before it gets old, but there's no reason to make this person's life a living hell because you think she's crazy stupid. That having been said, I don't think anything will ever tip the Internet Crazy Wierd-o-meter like that site they had with fanfic and fanart about pregnant Megaman characters. That one still takes the cake. -Zac |

Notably, I haven't got a drivers license, or a Something Awful account.
I may very well correct one of those things. Guess which!
Somwhow, I'm dubious.
Ouch, my soul. |

I haven't been to SA in a long time. I used to like it when Lowtax updated, but I haven't seen his name on it for a while.

Haha, some of those were actually pretty good. The "tickling" thread is something I'm going to have to check out, it looks amazing.
Anyway, I too prefer Portal of Evil, seeing as how I check up on it nearly every day. Instead of long-winded and barely entertaining rants, they just let the sites speak for themselves. Also, their forum denizens stick to their OWN forum to bash and make jokes of their subjects - they don't invade those of their "exhibits." Thank god we're one of the better anime forums out there. .... ... right??? |

I can't say anything bout this, I've never been to their forums. i only look at photoshop fridays, comedy goldmine, and the reviews for games and movies. thats prettymuch it. its just people taking a stab at some things. it can be pretty funny, but i never take it too seriously. only some things that i agree with *cough* CS sucks *cough* but i haven't seen very many anime things in SA, only in the H part (YYYYUUUCK) |

I have to say the best one in the whole thing would have to be the story of the guy jacking off to the H-game. That had me laughing for at least a full 5 minutes.

If you liked that, you should read today's update.
Anime ranked up pretty high on the list of "Things That Suck". It's actually pretty funny. |
