I just finished the first season of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and all my doubts about Crispin Freeman being able to talk for nearly half an episode straight and keep things interesting have been washed away. I think I might actually watch this dub just for him, because it sounds like he'll do a pretty good job.

I'm still on the fence about Wendee Lee, and it doesn't help that both I and my best friend keep confusing her with Wendy Powell. I agree with Mylene in that her voice tends to flatten at the end of phrases, which sort of takes the 'oomph' out of the character. Still, you never know; I'm not going to condemn her performance entirely based on a trailer.

-can't wait until the site updates again-

I, too, am still on the fence for Wendee Lee (wonder if she reads these things). Everyone else, though, so far sounds pretty good.

That's quite a surprisingly compliment; a lot of people (myself excluded) thought he was the weakest actor of the main bunch. Frankly, though, I really can't say GITS can work as an absolute contrasting standard to measure Freeman's acting; much of GITS' dialogue isn't focused about expressing slight emotional changes, but straight-talk narration. One could basically find any commoner and have them speak in a microphone to get a GITS-level line of dialogue. It's good, of course, but only because that kind of talking is natural to people; it's not realy acting in the theatrical sense, but not quite "normal talking" as seen in The Boondocks.

I would suggest watching s-CRY-ed if one would really want to see what Freeman can do.

...

Also, I saw the trailer earlier this morning; as said, we really only got to hear Wendee Lee, and she's OK but does indeed sound aged.

Really? He was probably my favorite performance after Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Richard Epcar, although I thought GitS had a great cast in general. I also heard him in Hellsing (which was why I had my doubts previously) but hearing him do a softer voice reassured me quite a bit. I was refering specifically to his monologue in episode 26, because it seemed very Kyon-ish (without the sarcasm).

Ah well, We'll just have to wait and see.

I think the aged quality that Wendee Lee has does have something to do with her actual age, but I suppose that's not all it. Not sure why, but there was always something about her voice in the most recent dubs I've heard that included her that slightly annoyed me. Hopefully the rest of the dub will be pretty good...

On a side note, with the news of the separate soundtrack sale, as well as the rest of the merchandising, is there a possibility that other stuff such as the character CDs or the other singles will be selling here (outside imports)?

Well considering that those two are constantly stealing the show, not to mention fantastic actors....

But this is getting really off topic.

Kadokawa Shoten just announced that they are licensing Haruhi Suzumiya for a game... no platform or dev was announced.. (Bandai? Konami?) probably Bandai. Also didn't mention the type of game, spoiler[but 75% chance of suck IMHO]

As I mentioned before: too bad it won't be something like this:

That picture always struck me as really odd... I guess I never expected a hair color change, let alone that particular scheme. Mikuru blond? Eesh... Hope they don't do that with this game.

The game should be a visual novel using the original source as in-game text. With such an innovative investment, maybe we could see FSN or Alchemist's Higgy come overseas as well.

I know this series ahs a few parts wehere the characters actually sing some of the songs in the series. Do we know ehther they are going to keep the songs sung in Japanese by the original voice actors, or are they going to have the dub actors sing the English versions of the songs?

I don't think that anything's been said about that yet. We may just have to wait until we see the DVDs or the advance reviews of them.

I really liked the original versions, so I hope they at least give you the option of leaving them in if they dub the songs. I doubt they'll let you do something like "English-original songs" or something like that, but 'tis a nice thought.

Though, if they release CDs with the originals that would be cool too, or I could just import them. Still, it would be nice if they left it alone or gave you the option, though.
