I'm more interested in if there are any plans to release the Miyazaki film on bluray in the states.

I'm wondering for how many other people this really just doesn't look very good, but then again it doesn't help at all that it's basically impossible to separate this film from comparisons to the pure magic that was Ghibli's Majo no Takkyuubin.

I'm still thinking that Kiki should have been a 12 year old.. the actress looking a lot older is throwing me off.

I'd be surprised if there weren't plans to release the Blu-ray version over here. Why are you doubting that? It's only been a year since the Japanese release.

I wasn't aware of the time frame. I recall reading something about Disney taking longer to release Ghibli titles, but I hadn't realized it was released in Japan a year ago. I was under the impression it had been out longer.

This actually looks quite a bit ways better than I was expecting, though admittedly the classic Studio Ghibli version would likely make it very difficult to watch this one without drawing comparisons, so I'm not sure I'm too keen on seeing this.

I wasn't terribly impressed after watching the trailer. :/ The Ghibli adaptation was much better looking. But to be fair I prefer animation to live-action.

The actress is too old, and the presentation is too kiddy-ish - should have been the other way round, a young (pre-teen) girl in a grittily elaborated fantasy world. Also, she's dressed in what looks like a mail-order Halloween costume.

Not sure why they even made this anyway - can't imagine anyone particularly wanting it. I'd rather see a live action of Witch Hunter Robin. (Of course, that anime was nowhere near as popular as the Ghibli film!)

The weird colour palette makes me uncomfortable.

I don't know if anyone notices because of the pretty poor effort of a live action, but I do not see her pet friend Jiji. Will this movie not carry her beloved mascot and friend? Where's the wise and wisecracking cat Jiji.

Yeah I saw the trailer on kotaku, from looking at this, this look like this film was done low-budget. Shocked

I think this should've been a TV movie, not a theatrical film. I mean the film quality look subpar. The CG looks hilariously bad and bland.
