I'm a bit skeptical about this.

Why? Seems like the kind of thing the average consumer won't notice or be affected by. Any changes will be behind the scenes boring business stuff.

Hopefully this means that certain like Railgun S will get the approval for a BD release as a sign of good faith because of this deal.

As long as it's not a partnership like ADV/Sojitz, I'm not against it.

Someone with way more insider knowledge of the industry than I have (which is zero) should speak up to tell us if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Hopefully, it's good, because I want Funimation to be around for a long, long time.

so it's like the Viz/WB distribution partnership?

Was that a win/win or just business as usual?

I would say the usual but thanks to that deal, more of Viz's titles have shown up in stores like Wal-Mart & Target, who usually don't carry much anime aside from the big titles so if this deal with FUNi leads to the same thing, it could be win/win.

Wonder if this means Funi might start looking at distributing outside the USA?

On paper, this looks like a good match. Universal has one of the largest distribution processing in North America. By "offloading" the costs to a well oiled machine makes financial sense.

Given that, the second I can't skip the FBI warning, or previews, is the last time I buy a FUNimation product.

Other than that, I wish the partnership luck.

If the resources (human & financial) that were allotted for the physical releases are used elsewhere within FUNimation, and the physical media releases aren't negatively affected by the move, it should turn out fine for all involved.

I am curious about this as well. On the one hand, it gives Funi the opportunity for potential hit titles and more anime exposure to the mainstream audience.

However, it also runs the risk of having a large company, Universal, trying to capitalize on the anime demand. This company, though a bigger company than Funi, doesn't have as much experience working with anime as Viz, Sentai/ADV, or Funimation.

Well hopefully they will keep the original side box art, was on the fence about buying anime from Funimation with the green "S.A.V.E.", though I'll dread hearing the UNIVERSAL STUDIOS opening theme every bloody episode (i'm okay with it being in movies)

It's this. Business as usual. Should mean increased distribution to more retail channels for Funi, otherwise it isn't anything you'll notice as a fan.
