Fafner went from standard release to SAVE? Ouch must not have done well and they are including the movie too.
The first release could be considered an Anime Classics release that wasn't labeled that way, given that it's a license rescue of an older show. I am tempted by that Blu-Ray SAVE collection to supplement my old Geneon DVDs, even if it means an getting an extra BD copy of the movie.

Oh, I don't know. Haibane Renmei, Hellsing, Texhnolyze were rescues and went straight to labeled Anime Classics. Meanwhile license rescue Serial Experiments Lain got a LE, a RE and a Classics, then there is Hellsing Ultimate which got a LE (sort of). So, license rescue doesn't mean that it will be marketed as a classic. I think they release in a line based on how much they think it will sell. They are not always right and they can be inconsistent. I probably would have put Fafner in the classic line, but either someone was sleeping at the wheel or maybe they thought that since they released Evangelion it could ride its coattails. "Look Evangelion has giant robots! You like robots? Fafner has giant robots too!" If it had sold well then they probably would have gone after Fafner: Exodus.

Personally I'd take Fafner over Buddy Complex any day of the week.

Oh, but for those disappointed by a lack of the Noein outtakes (which I very much am btw), at least they're on youtube. Yuri Lowenthall and Crispin Freeman seemed to especially have fun here. "C-Crispin Freeman get out of my bedroom!", a classic line from these outtakes for sure.

*Fair warning, may have some spoilers, especially the later ones

And just a random observation -- as far as I can tell, Funimation is the only long-time licensee that has never had one of their initial licenses pass to another company.

That was true until just recently, when Discotek licensed one of their old Lupin movies they used to have.

Right Stuff / Nozomi recently picked up Big Windup. Probably others we're not thinking of too.

Definitely getting that Noein LE. I love that show, one of my all time favourites. I never once thought that that show was going to be released on BD, so I'm loving Funi for this.

Guess I'll be picking up Fafner now. When it's at the point you can buy a movie and get its TV series for free, there's no point in debating it. Still haven't seen it, still cheaper just to buy it.

NOEIN? I want to replace my DVD set with the BD. Not for the HD treatment, I just want it to take up less space.

Dragon Academy got dubbed and Buddy Complex didn't. I would have bet on neither getting dubbed.

Now for the bad news. Just in case you haven't heard yet, the Tokyo Ghoul CE boxed set has been canceled/postponed due to a production problem with the set. Funi actually did ship these sets to retail, but fortunately we got the word in time that they were being canceled/recalled before we shipped out any to you guys. We will leave all pre-orders for the set active, however, it has been removed from the September release schedule and a re-release date is TBD. We are not going to accept anymore pre-orders for the set until Funi sets a new date. If you would like to switch your pre-order from the CE to one of the other two Tokyo Ghoul sets, just drop us a line and we'll see to it...

Big News on Our Free! –Eternal Summer- BD/DVD Release
Posted by FUNimation Entertainment on 10/05/2015 at 5:09pm

We are upgrading all three releases of Free! -Eternal Summer- to include the OVA, a fourteenth episode of the series that was not broadcast on Japanese television or on simulcast! This will affect the Premium Edition, Limited Edition, and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack. All three will now be available February 16, 2016 (but pre-order now)!

We’ve been working hand-in-hand with our licensing partners in Japan to be able to make this change for you, and through collaborating together, we are now able to put the series and OVA together. This is a new opportunity that hasn’t been available before, so we’re excited to be bringing all of Free! -Eternal Summer- to fans in one single package.

What does this mean for you? If you’ve pre-ordered the series already, no sweat—your order will remain the same, but your home video release will now include the extra content. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, you can do so now—pre-order before the release date and you’ll also be entered to win some great prizes! (If you’ve already pre-ordered, you’re already automatically entered.)

The OVA is really pretty special—an all-out water gun fight full-length episode with the Iwatobi and Samezuka boys, full of hilarity and drama and wet swimmer boys and… maid outfits? Who’s going to come out on top?! Suffice to say, if you’re a Free! fan craving more content after the end of the TV series, you won’t want to miss out on this one.

Need more reasons to pre-order? Check out everything you get in the Free! –Eternal Summer- “For the Future” Premium Edition:

  • The Free! –Eternal Summer- Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, featuring a gorgeous rigid chipboard box with water gloss effect inspired by the Japanese release
  • A full-color art book, including many gorgeous pieces exclusive only to the original Japanese releases
  • Seven glossy art cards also using exclusive, highly detailed art from the covers of the Japanese releases—you’ll definitely want to frame these
  • A color sports towel, so you can take the boys to the pool or beach! An Iwatobi and a Samezuka decal to show off your school pride
  • And finally, everything housed in a handsome collector’s box to hold all your Free! collectibles

Customers who pre-order the Premium Edition will be entered to win a 1/8 scale figure of Iwatobi High School’s resident water lover, Haruka Nanase!
