Shin’ichirō Watanabe without Yōko Kanno? That’s too bad.

So Spring 2019 will premiere 2 original anime done by a few of the biggest heavyweight auteurs of the anime industry: Watanabe and Ikuhara. I'm bummed out that Carole and Tuesday is a Netflix exclusive as we won't get weekly episode reviews of both shows.

I’m wondering if Netflix is planning on getting a yuri story because the early announcements contained a romance tag.

Wasn't expecting this to have a sci-fi setting, but I'm actually more excited now, that was a pleasant surprise. Watanabe can do no wrong so I'm fairly optimistic about this one (kinda wish Yoko Kano was onboard too, but, oh well... I'm sure the artist in charge of the music will do a good job too)

I am kind of feeling some yuri here but I wish the art was better.

If his music selections on his Youtube page are any indication, this is going to be a treat for the ears.

Now that would be a surprise treat. But I rather hold my expectations a bit.

Wait, so it's not actually directed by Watanabe, though? Isn't that what that director staff role is indicating?

Is it weird that I kind of want to see them do a rendition of "girls just want to have fun"?

Well, it was also with the Lost Song, but it turned out that they was talking about the heterosexual relationship of the older girl in the pair. However, everything can be. Especially when a synopsis contains such suspicious phrases as “will eventually grow into something larger”, lol.

Oh, thanks. Apart from the anime project, his style sounds interesting thus far (and personally quite right up my alley).

I actually think having a romance tag makes it more unlikely to be yuri weirdly. I cant think of an anime with a romance tag and without a yuri tag that was yuri though there may be one. A romance tag implies to me that one or both of the girls have male love interests. Not to say there won't be yuri undertones ofc. It would be a nice surprise to be wrong though.

Neither was Space Dandy, and that turned out excellent.

I've heard Watanaba is really good at choosing the right people for the right roles, so he usually takes a more back-seat approach to directing.
