I wish they could make a final TV series adapting what's left of the manga instead of making an original movie every now and then. Does Akira Kamiya just not have the energy to work on a weekly TV show again?

They are begging for a remake didn't they??? hahahaha (I wish)
I hope they could adapt what's left in the manga, but I will not say no to more content, even if it's original. I could see more Saeba for the rest of my life and I will not complain <3

he has been working very sporadically since the 00's.It's probably due to his age(despite the fact there are older VAs more active than him) and for being supposedly one of the most expensive voice-actors to hire in Japan. That's probably why he was replaced in Detective Conan.

Akira Kamiya is also, from last I heard, one of the most expensive seiyuu in the entire anime industry, because of how legendary he is, so I would imagine it's more cost-effective to just do movies, while still casting him as Ryo. Hell, he stopped voicing Kogoro Mori in Detective Conan back in 2009 (Rikiya Koyama has voiced Mori ever since), possibly because he just got too expensive to continue using.
Also, with him being 75 right now, I imagine Kamiya himself prefers being semi-retired & not having to work on a weekly production, at this point.

It’d be cool if they found a way to do a Dirty Pair crossover.

The most popular thing telephoned amongst Conan fans about him is that his contract with the show was up for re-negotiation and neither side was willing to budge. He posted something on his social media one day complaining, but took it down quickly. In this sense, he could still work on other productions. But yes, like you said, he could be semi-retired as well.
Generally, pretty happy to hear the news.

Hell Yeah!
the last of my City Hunter series Blu-Rays from Discotek came in not that long ago. I thought the last movie they did was 10 out of 10 for City Hunter fans. I got to meet a bunch of the cast at Anime Boston a couple years ago.

I can see that, its a shame because he was a great Kogoro. it's also surprising when the VA for goku is still going and she's into her late 80's

I randomly ran into Nozawa Masako on the platform at Shibuya station back in 2016. That was random AF. Friend of mine knows her and was able to have a quick chat before she got on the train and left.
