I know it's a total coincidence that they couldn't have possibly planned for but announcing the single character who most exemplifies people's complaints about Tekken 8 when the game is at its lowest point PR-wise is very, very funny.

I think it’s more puzzling that this is the 2nd instance of them selling a character that was also DLC in the previous game.

Maybe not even that coincidental at all - considering this damned guy (if they barely reworked how he played in 7 mechanically) fitting the current controversial Tekken state of play after the worst possible balance reworks which got major negative response from the fanbase like the tightest glove.

It's like they made the game broken on purpose to just sell this guy that barely anybody liked in Tekken 7 - and now it backfires even harder.

Third actually, Lidia and Anna both were DLC in both games.

spoiler[And evidence is suggesting the next one will be Marduk which would make it four.]

Modern fighting games represent the worst aspects of video games all rolled into one genre. Live service, DLC, season passes, main focus on online gameplay leading to single player and local co-op being screwed over due to balance updates, being expensive as hell. Take me back to the days of just picking one up and playing it with friends.

Being fair fighting games had a lot of those traits before it became standarized, like making them delberately obnoxiously hard so they'd eat up more quarters or doing constant cabinet revisions for rebalancing or rereleases that added a couple new characters but were otherwise the same thing.

And in some cases, re-releases with new arcade hardware like Street Fighter II (CPS2 with Super), Street Fighter Alpha 3 (NAOMI with Upper) & Mega Man: The Power Battle (CPS2).
