Ah, so they're not only exploiting parasocial relationships, now they're charging for it. And the free messages are totally a predatory way to hook in people with poor impulse control, disgusting.

I wonder how limited they made it. I assume you can't ask the characters questions about sensitive topics like politics.. that could be fun

I guess this like the old days when people would roleplay as characters on Tumblr and do "Asks"? Only it's official?
Could be interesting, I guess but it's not available in the US? That's a bummer.

I don't see this as any different than voice actors who claim that they are the characters they voice to fans and charge money to meet them at conventions or do paid videos for fans on websites like Cameo. That's a parasocial and predatory practice that seems pretty normalized and accepted already.
