From Wikipedia:
| Quote: | | Toei Animation decided to make Digimon Ghost Game a villain of the week show as they found that children of the generation the series came out have low attention spans due to the prevalence of YouTube and TikTok. They were worried that if they made a show with an extended plot, children would get bored quickly and stop watching the show entirely. |
It will be interesting to see if this new one avoids the pitfalls that Ghost Game seemed to suffer from, though that single picture doesn't really instill confidence. During the Vital Bracelet era, they had some really cool momentum a hit anime show could have capitalised on, but similar to how I just don't ever see/hear anyone talking about Yugioh Sevens the way that even GX or 5Ds had audiences hooked, the only people I'd even remotely seen talking about Ghost Game were the diehard fans desperately waiting for subs over periods of hiatus. The sad reality is that what we actually need is an anime tie-in to the new video game, and possibly a re-release or collection of the older Digimon World titles.
These newer Digimon projects are just way too few and far between over the last decade to keep the IP's momentum going. There was a ton of interest in the card game when that launched a little while back, but I barely hear anything of it now.

Toei's reasons for making Ghost Game episodic were pretty dumb, but there's no real indication of what direction this will go in just based on a single visual (also not sure what "hiatuses" you're referring to here when Toei was simulcasting the series week to week.on Crunchyroll and the show didn't have any notable breaks). Only other thing to go off of is some comments from the producer awhile back saying they want this to appeal to both adults who grew up with the franchise as well as kids which does sound promising.
I liked Ghost Game for what it was, and I thought it was able to do some interesting things with its weekly horror story format though I'd be lying if I said I'm not hoping this one is more story driven (though hopefully not to the extent of Adventure 2020 which tried so hard to have a serious story that it neglected to do anything with the characters until late into the show, and felt way more repetitive than Ghost Game did as a result).
Curious to see what this one brings to the table, though it'd be nice to know who's actually working on it. Kinda hoping that having the staff being kept this close to the chest means they have some notable people on it, but this is Toei so I'm not too optimistic there

I'm always happy to see Miyu Irino's name in everything! Megumi Han as a Digimon will probably be a lot of fun.

What a weird and dismissive remark. Not only did they create a new department specifically for Digimon starting with this show, the staff sounds very promising if the leaks are anything to go by.
This is easily gonna be the best produced Digimon show in terms of production values.

Yeah, I worded that very poorly. Don't mean to imply there aren't talented folks at Toei, but they do tend to rotate staff a lot so I've just been assuming there won't be any surprises here, though I'd be happy if there are
