HOLY CRAP!!!

I never thought this was arriving here. It's in the Gegege no Kitaro or Chibi Maruko-chan category of massively successful children's shows that have been running for decades. I knew a few classics like Gegege and Maruko were being brought over, but despite it's success it still isn't as big as those two so I assumed we would never get it.

No longer! We finally have US Nintama, if this is a prelude to getting even more stuff officially subtitled I would be ecstatic, but either way I am going to enjoy officially supporting these goofy ninja amateurs.

Kind of random, but cool.

I've been interested in Nintama Rantarou for a long time but its unavailability has always put me off. I was able to see some episodes on TV while I was in Japan a few years back and that's it.
Would I be able to watch and enjoy this movie without watching the show? I remember enjoying the episodes I watched but I can't recall the details.

I find it kind of weird that it is only available with subtitles, I believe that a kid-oriented anime should be available dubbed. Most kids, don't have the patience to read subtitles.

Meanwhile, still waiting for a U.S. release of Zenigata and the Two Lupins...

I can let you know after I watch the movie! I watched one of the older movies before seeing the show, that time it seemed like one of those situations where seeing the show provides extra context to what's happening but the plot makes sense and the movie was fun to watch without any prior experience.

If it seems up your alley I think it's worth a shot for sure, but I will let you know if the new one is similar and a fun watch.

That was unexpected! I've been waiting so long for an official release of Nintama in the US!

I agree! It would be cool to see more Nintama material get officially released in the US. Maybe we could get some episodes from the TV series, the older movies, or the Quest for the Cosmic Front series.

Prime Video might be targeting an older, niche audience for the movie, which could explain why there are no dubs for it right now. It's also been released sub-only in various Asian countries, such as Singapore and India, which suggests that international distributors are starting out with subs first (probably to cut costs and minimize risk) then expand to dubs later if necessary.

That's very kind of you, thank you! I don't really know how you will let me know though, it doesn't seem like private messages exist on the site? I could be wrong, I haven't made a lot of comments yet.
From your description it seems like a similar situation to the Detective Conan movies where you can watch most of them without being up to date with the show.

I am really, really hoping this is the start of a drip feed like PreCure!

That makes sense to me because a lot of times the stuff in kids' anime isn't to the taste of a lot of parents of young children. Not anything too racy or extreme, but there are guns and bladed weapons and spoiler[stealing a lord's underwear is a major plot point in one movie.] I could see it being popular with slightly older pre-teen kids but I think this is definitely meant to appeal to the adult fans rather than being the next big thing for kids.

@Nyapan

There is a private message function, it's under the Forum section in the bar menu at the top when you click on it. I have trouble finding it on my phone but a little pop up box is at the top usually.

I will send you a message but if you miss that (because I do miss when it tells me at times) I will probably post here regardless so others can know.

You can keep an eye out for the topic in Talkback. Talkback is the forum for all the comment threads attached to articles organized by most recent, so if you see this news at the top then it could be me adding the info.

Thank you for all the info, it'll be useful since I was a bit lost on the site Laughing
I'll be looking forward to your opinion on the movie!

But I remeber that Nintama Rantaro got dubbed into other languages like Latin American Spanish, though only a very small fraction of the series was dubbed. I do believe there's a market for children anime to received dubs, for example, a couple of years ago some of the Anpanman movies got dubbed into Neutral Spanish and were uploaded to Tubi.
