Love that ANN is finally reviewing the back half of Thunderbolt Fantasy, thank you Kennedy!
I actually enjoyed Season 4 and the Movie more than Seasons 2-3. I'm a sucker for huge casts, fast pacing and multi plot-lines though. The addition of an entire Demon Council adding even more gorgeous costumes and puppet vivisection.
The movie wrapped things up about as well as could be expected given all the loose ends, and left an opening for a sequel/spinoff with The Character Plot Twist that was reveled. I kind of dug it, but I can totally see people being upset with it. Looking back, I don't recall it being foreshadowed at all throughout the series. It would have made it feel less out-of-left-field if it had clearly been planned since the start and we had had clues along the way.

Completely agree with Kennedy that this is the weakest entry by far. Dark and gloomy setting of Demon realm gets visually tiresome, new cast members are all meh. Demon court nobles have no personality and are just a glorified cannon fodder. Two new Divine Swarm member are more fun, but end up being somewhat underutilised and written out of the story in an unremarkable way. And core cast members are even more separated from each other than in season 3, so fun banter and chemistry are dished out in a limited quantity.
And on top of that, big action climax is offloaded to the movie, so season just ends with no fanfare. On the positive note, it delivers on Plot Twists, Big Reveals and Hype and Aura fronts, so Thunderbolt Fantasy still totally rules, it's just not the same timeless masterpiece seasons 1 and 2 were.
