Yeah, I tired of reading this myself after one too many walkbacks.

I genuinely do enjoy reading these trashy "mid" romcom manga but I got bored of this one at about 40ish chapters. It follows a pattern you see in that genre a lot where early chapters are frontloaded with fanservice before it cools down and develops into something more substantial but that last part doesn't really happen in this case. It's very directionless and the characters feel way too familiar for me. Can't remember their names let alone their charm points.

I haven't read the manga, but I ended up dropping the anime after episode 6. That's when it became clear it was just going to be the same placeholder gag EVERY TIME the story showed any hint of progression. I enjoy a good romcom. Sadly this isn't one...

I'm speaking as someone who is currently watching and enjoying the anime...I don't know if it's the anime visuals or the voice acting, but for me the series really works.
Maybe it's just because I'm a very simple viewer who enjoys many a Harem Romcom, but I like how it wears what it is on its sleeves, I like the girls, I like their dynamics with Eiyu, even if it's all been stuff that's been seen and done before it owns it and sells it as much as it possibly can.

Absolutely hysterical series. It knows what it is and revels in it.

Am I insane? Isn't the childhood friend the one that never gets the guy in the end?

I'm pretty sure it's usually the childhood friend that loses these days. But maybe that's just me.
IMO it's actually kinda impressive how much comedy hijinks the author manages to come up with. I understand it's basically the same joke. But it's impressive.
