A Kana fan! How cultured!
The only thing I would disagree with was that I think Akane was already in love with him by the time they went out so any career furthering out of it was secondary for her versus being with the guy who stopped her from committing suicide and who she genuinely wanted to hook up with. It's Aqua who started off using Akane but then slowly started falling for her.

| Quote: | | Other themes include the difficulties and compromises that inevitably arise when adapting one medium into another (in this case, manga to TV drama, and manga to stage play) |
The live-action version has one exchange between Aqua and Akane that gets deliciously meta here.

That's exactly what I've been wondering since the final chapter dropped. The fandom's been marinating in its own salt since then, if you'll pardon my tortured culinary metaphor. Once everyone's had some time to cool down, and a new audience comes to the end as the anime finishes (plus some volume-only readers), maybe people will think better of it. I decided at the time that I didn't need to have an opinion, given how many people were so loudly having their own.
And there's a smaller case of "the threads leading towards it were all there" that were really obvious even at the time, and the fandom still melted down. A day or two after the relevant chapter came out (one around three-quarters of the way through the manga), I tweeted:
Ch1: "I want to marry Sensei."
Ch36: "Sensei was my first love."
Ch77: "I still want to marry Sensei."
Ch123: "Did I stutter?"

You missed out
Ch2: “Good news! We’ve solved the age-gap problem!”
