Had this pegged as the spiritual follow-up to Tougen Anki but at least Tougen Anki's art direction and CG use were more interesting to look at

Why?
What's the point of reviewing anime if you can't have at least some BAD anime to review negatively? You do realize that the point isn't "what is worth your time to have your positive expectations repeated back to you", but the point is actually "We're doing a civic duty to tell people why crap like this shouldn't be watched and to give it the trashing it deserves to have."

This is rapidly looking like it will be my second drop of the season.

Are you going to make it through this, Jeremy? I dropped this two minutes into ep 2, but I thought I'd read the reviews to see if I missed anything. Turns out not! But I am concerned for your mental health. If there's someone out there who genuinely loves this show, you need to speak up. If crickets, then I hope Jeremy will bail if it gets too soul-crushing.

Personally, I enjoy the series. It's like a hidden gem of ghost hunting that I adore. The heroes have interesting powers that's not limited to just elemental elements, and you have other groups coming in the future with even more interesting abilities. I think the only one I didn't really care for was the mascot doll owner. I like the direction this goes way more than Tougen Anki, and the enemies are also unique in their abilities. The animation may not be so great, but I'm glad that an anime of this was adapted, and I am looking forward to seeing it every week.

I find it funny that the image used a sad emoji.

I dropped this [expletive] trash after the first episode. But Jeremy’s reviews are absolutely hilarious so I come just to read them.
Keep up the good fight!

Not to defend the show much, but the whole friendship as family thing is hardly exclusive to Fairy Tail and is pretty much central to every shonen.

Um, the “Banhammer of Civility” was named as such in the first episode. oO

That's because the anime only covered up to a quarter of the K story arc.
The anime covered up to manga Chp 28.
The K arc runs until Chp 106, so you'd need about 3-4 more 1-cour seasons to animate the entire arc assuming future seasons keep this similar pacing. K becomes more active in the story arc's later stages, but you would only see that in (hypothetical) later seasons. And even then, some of K's origins play a part in the 2nd arc thanks to it's villain being connected to him and encouraging him to become a Dead Account in the first place.
The 2nd arc starts from Chp 107, and is still ongoing as of this post.
