I am an episode behind but I am pretty happy that there have been non a-hole human characters besides the main group. I do question not finishing off the rather insane bug wizard though, unless that crystal breaking means that he is no longer a future threat (him just knowing about the baby is already a risk).

Ep 9
Tony, looks like you were right, only backwards.
smurky, I hope you're caught up before you read this, but aside from bug wizard knowing, even more insane is how Alicia and Klen just openly detail all their plans right in front of Magneto Girl. Didn't feel like they had her on enough of a leash to make her not a threat to their plans, even if they seemed to be one step ahead of her anyway.
I hope Klen didn't kill all those guards and just put them in sword storage space. The kingdom is going to need them.
Nell: I hear screaming...
Keln: Nah, you're imagining it.

The old "hit a ninja, but they teleported away, and you actually hit a log" trick!
As for ep.9, I didn't expect them to get to the forge so quickly. If this season is only a single cour, I'm gonna' hate the wait for whenever the next one gets made. I feel like they didn't set up a lot, but instead, set up some very big domino pieces. And with, assumingly, only 3-4 episodes left, they'll either let those dominoes fall, or stop the very last one from doing so and leave us on a cliffhanger.
Also, I've always wondered what was up with the Queen and Luna's noses. Are they, like, some kind of demi-human race? They look mostly humanoid, but the noses make me think otherwise. Maybe they're some native race to that kingdom/area, and maybe they also have magical potential we don't yet know about? I wouldn't mind those as interesting reveals for a season-ender.

Ep10- It may be my mindset but with how "talky" Drel has been and especially in this episode there is so much "abridged version" fodder in this otherwise serious (relatively) action-packed episode. Had to actually laugh when Alicia gets whacked and Drel quips about being her father's daughter and in the middle of this life-or-death fight she stops and comes back with "forget about that, I want to know what went down with you and dad" and he basically replies "sure, it all started..." .
Also, this is at least the second time the artists have Baby Luna slyly put on the "poop face" with Clevatess/Clen being the "straight man" in response. And let's not forget the comedy gold with Margo doing the Epic Charge to finish off the dragon with his Magic Weapon as the Hero he so definitely is only to stub his toe on a rock, slip and get whacked by said dragon and then gets stomped. Sort of like Ep1 with the Main Hero getting summarily whacked by Clevatess after his big heroic speech about he was vowing to defeat him, yada, yada, yada.
And if you thought being beheaded was enough to put an end to the king, well, think again. Like Monty Python, he shows up and I was ready to have him declare "it's only a flesh wound" in John Cleese's voice. If all this is intentional, the author has a fine dry sense of humor and I love it!

That was probably the most interested in the show I've been since the premiere. Which is unfortunate- my understanding is that its a single-cour show, and I don't really see a satisfactory resolution to the newly introduced plot threads in the next episode or two. I didn't expect a full conclusion of course. But this seems a little more unresolved than most.
Still, that doesn't take away from it being an interesting episode. Some pretty good action, lore about some precursor humans having set this whole system up, more attempts to define/redefine what a hero is ...its good stuff, intriguing and much more engaging than a random flashback that could've been summarized in 2-4 sentences.

Eh, it feels like it's doing a deconstruction of a setting it never constructed in the first place. The first episode was already mocking the idea of heroes. They deconstructed it, then tried to build it, then re-deconstruct it, I guess?

Ep11- There is so much to unpack here it's a little nuts but understandable if the team is trying to compress the rest of the story arc into the next episode or two, which would be a travesty as this story deserves much more time to develop. But at least we get confirmation that Drel got stomped and resurrected as a puppet of the Dragon Dark Beast Lord in similar manner to Alicia and Clevatess. Also, there was some truly proper and intense action and as good artwork as I think the budget allowed and well choregraphed. Appreciating that the characters actually act like real people too and not puppets and we didn't get to see a baby incinerated for the heck of it...

I wouldn't say there is a second deconstruction as much as setting up to explore the role or need for "hero" in the context of the world as it exists having established a little of what true heroism is. What reason does the magically powered and sentient "Book of Toah" have for fostering heros to go after the Dark Beast Lords when there is no effectivity in doing do as Drel/V asserts? Hope we get to that answer in the next episode or so unless there is a second cour, but it'll be fascinating either way...
Also, much "ouchie..." this episode.

Clevatess has really surprised me. I am not usually into dark fantasy because it often devolves into misery fuel with never ending tragedy. While the show is certainly not cheerful by any means (plenty gory too) it does have lighter moments and not everyone is pure evil. What kept me interested most and happy about a second season coming is the setting/story. The dark beasts, kingdoms, true humans and hero legend, it is an interesting tale and the show is good at providing just enough information to keep you going while hungry for more. I also liked the style of the show and Alicia is a badass while Clevatess did change over time.
I do wonder what a second season would be about since the ending sets up a lot of interesting plot points.

Babby Luna's first steps were cute, but seeing what they did to him later, with the Elizabethan collar and the teeny tiny micro-crown, was hilarious. And every once in awhile, Klen says some good stuff, showing he knows more about humans than humans do. Like saying the King must stand on his own (even if he's still just a wee babby).
Hope we don't have to wait too long for a second season.

Episode 12 (Finale)
This one started pretty strong for me, held over the middle and then started to fizzle out. Liked it enough that I'll check out any sequel, although I hope that "magic academy" teaser at the end is just a joke... but even if it's not, I'll still try it. To tell the truth, I was never a big fan of the show's central element: an all powerful Dark Beast who takes human form and has the arrogant, seemingly non-caring attitude of an all powerful Dark Beast but it didn't prevent me from liking other aspects like our tough, one-eyed female hero or Nell. Wasn't crazy about the baby stuff, either. 6/10.

I found the baby stuff to be way less annoying than I initially expected it to be. There was no constant crying or whining and the little king in question grew up pretty fast (a little too fast some might even say).

Agree that the baby stuff wasn't as insufferable as it could have been. And of course Nell is inextricably tied to the baby and I love her, although I was initially enraged at the show for her overly harsh situation at the beginning.

S2 E1:
While I heave heard plenty of people concerned about the show going from a journey to a magic school quest I really liked the first episode. The meeting between three kingdoms set up a good reason to go into the magic school and the flash forward made clear that things will get messy sooner or later. There are also plenty of quirky students (and teachers) and the description of the school makes it sound pretty demanding and dangerous. A dark fantasy take on magic school could be a lot of fun.
I do wonder about Luna and Nell though, are they sitting out the season?

Introducing the concept and the cast. They've at least come up with a more elaborate mystery to drive the magic school season, but it still has the feeling of a self contained arc that's less original than the first.
It's got the fun vibe in the writing and action, but there's so many tropes here. I'll enjoy this but it's clearly going to lack the fresh feeling of S1.
