The kind of people who refuse to watch animation are probably not going to enjoy a movie about a loud spiky haired bright orange ninja doing over the top anime moves. |
Cowboy Bebop and One Piece did well with the anti-animation crowd and I've seen people say they prefer the live-action versions to the cartoon one. It really can't be understated how simply not making something a cartoon get people to be more open minded at stuff. Silly and over the top isn't much of a deterrence given The CW superhero stuff and other live-action cheese like recent Star Wars and Star Trek shows found an audience. It really is just because animation is a huge barrier that immediately turns off a lot of people. Maybe there's some xenophobia there too and people don't like seeing Japanese stuff either and prefer the Americanized versions as well.
Some anime fans might like these for whatever reason but we're not the target audience. These are to get non-fans into these IPs.

Yes, but Cowboy Bebop is fairly realistic and not very "anime" to begin with (yet they still screwed it up) and with One Piece at least pirate movies are a familiar concept to animation haters, and even animation haters are still familiar with the cartoony tropes One Piece uses. I've also met plenty of people who watched the live action One Piece and ended up reading the manga after so I think it's more putting it in front of more eyeballs as well as accessibility (it's way less daunting to start with a season of a TV show than over 1000 episodes and countless manga volumes) than hating animation in that case.
Those two have universal appeal. Naruto has every goddamn shonen anime trope baked into the very premise. You can't get around the fact that, well, it's Naruto. It's like making a live action Hollywood Di Gi Charat or Ouran High School Host Club or something. No one who isn't a weeb is going to understand it yet alone like it. Making it live action isn't going to change that.

The new Spider-Man is projected to have a gigantic opening, so the comic bubble hasn´t popped. Well, not fully but the genre simply can´t sustain the avalanche of product it used to get. Only the strong shall survive and the Naruro IP has more pull than, let´s say Superman these days, so this isn´t a suicide dive. Naruto is also a superhero manga, as that is what the author called it. Some of it could work in live action, some cannot, but there is no film series in the existing story. Make a show or write a new plot.
Naruto and Sasuke are also traditionally Japanese characters. More so than most fantasy set Battle Shounen. The underwritten Sakura, who cares, and the same goes for a bunch of others but a white Sasuke with an American accent would be as cringe as an all-Japanese FMA movie series. Luckily, such films don´t exist...

I looked at the article now look at my point Hollywood is not the only place that makes bad movies or bad adaptations of existing works.
That was my point. It’s fine to debate on the recurring issue of Hollywood putting out adaptations of mixed quality but let’s be fair here they’re not the only ones guilty of doing
this.

My dude Star Wars and Star Trek were cheesy from the jump there’s a reason the classic stuff has been spoofed in perpetuity

One does not make an adaptation of a popular manga solely for people not familiar with the original work. Espcially one that’s never been as popular in certain markets as other works.

Resident: Yeah, but it's still a lower opening than NWH, which might suggest hesitation and weariness on the part of fans burned by mediocre Marvel product. LG is probably hoping BND is another win, so they have a reason to bet on Naruto. ('From the director of...') Otherwise, Cretton could be axed from the latter project, and maybe get stuck with Shang-Chi 2, like Simu Liu after Doomsday flops.

The live action Naruto will probably be bad but if you've only heard bad things about Shang Chi, you need to meet more people.

Cowboy Bebop was pretty anime to me just cool sci-fi space adventure anime and not shounen anime anime. It was anime enough they had to change a ton of stuff like Faye's outfit and a lot of mannerisms and culture. So anything 'too anime' will be removed in the Naruto adaption just like they were in One Piece and Cowboy Bebop. One Piece was also shounen anime trope and they just god rid of all that stuff like Usopp's nose, Sanji's eyebrow, his perverted antics, making the cast more diverse, etc. Naruto can be changed just as much so I wouldn't worry

Okay, but if you remove the "anime" tropes from Cowboy Bebop and One Piece they still keep the same basic premise. Space bounty hunters and pirates looking for a treasure. Those premises have universal appeal.
The shounen anime tropes are baked into Naruto's very premise. Naruto without superpowered ninjas doing hand seals and running with their arms stretched behind their backs doesn't even vaguely resemble Naruto anymore. If they "god rid of all that stuff" there'd be nothing left. You wouldn't even have a movie.
The only people who would be open to a premise like Naruto are people who already watched/read it or would be open to it. The snobby animation haters they're trying to please wouldn't even want to watch it. There's no audience for this other than maybe curious fans who want to see just how bad it is or people who already want to dip their toes into the franchise but find the length too daunting.

Zero percent chance this will be good but Sexy no Jutsu will be a good litmus test for any director or staf attached to this. If they have an issue with something simple like that and remove it or change it then the project is an immediate write-off and you know it's not being made in good faith.
