I wasn't even an anime fan by the time the cel era ended but shows from back then just look better. Digital animation has never been able to replicate that warmth.

That’s really cool. In an age of AI, I always appreciate the extra effort.

It's only used on that one section of the Opening, but it's still very cool nonetheless.

Always refreshing to see hand-drawn cel animation in this day and age, even if this wasn't entirely surprising considering how much this series leans into 80s/90s art styles.

I think this OP and the ED for Sparks of Tomorrow are the best looking sequences of the season.

I am absolutely gushing over this. I love, love, love this so much. Yeah it's just a few cuts in the opening, but it pays such a wonderful tribute to cel animation. It makes me somewhat sentimental, knowing that this is a dead form of art.
I know why it's not used anymore, but these cuts show just how beautiful cels still are. The rest is just as wonderfully animated in its own right, but never can digital match the sort of feeling cels convey to me.
Only two episodes in, but I adore this show for its technical aspects alone already. I hope this will release on Blu-ray in the future.

Funny you mention the '90s, because it was technically in the late '90s where some studios began switching to digital ink & paint, though it seems Toei Animation was the major one with all of their shows made after 1997 being digitally colored, though their movies were hand painted for a while. Excel Saga from 1999 was also digitally colored, some shows like Cowboy Bebop had a few episodes digitally painted, and I think shows like Gokudo sometimes mixed scenes traditionally made with cels with digitally painted ones.
Now that I think of it, Western animated shows began being digitally colored much earlier.

I was gonna take a pass on it, but interviews are coming out that it may in fact be the real deal.
I originally had no interest at all in keeping tabs on it, but now with the news popping up, I may actually at least keep my ear out in case it does wind up surprising everyone with a good WLW show.

The interview I last remember seeing said something to the effect of them wanting it to be more complex than the "typical" yuri anime, which I'm not entirely sure how to interpret... it could go either way, really: yuri or yuribait.
(Which also made me wonder if I even know what the "typical yuri anime" even is -- the stuff I've watched and/or read has certainly struck me as being unwilling or even the slightest bit hesitant to get complicated or messy.)
