Just watched episode 6.

I should have guessed that Kid could do the Resonance of Souls thing. I mean, with his symmetry obsession it would make sense. His 'soul' has the three white lines and all. How cute. Evidently a deadly combination, him and the sisters, but cute.

I thought it was a nice touch to see Tsubaki less than calm over the (admittedly unlikely) possibility that Black Star would dump her for Soul.

Stein, I knew he would having been doing nothing but dissections in class.

For what was basically an episode-long fight, I liked the bits of information we got, namely about how soul wavelengths really matter, can been seen and altered, and that Shinigami either doesn't have or, as the last scene seemed to suggest, it is really, really big.

Oh, and frankly seeing Kid fight against a pair of fools like those two boys was amusingly entertaining. Soul's better off with Maka, and I loved their little 'reunion' (which remarkably didn't involve her decking him for being a twit and taking on Kid in the first place). Can't say I can say the same about Tsubaki, though. It seems she's merely the only one who will put up with Black Star.

Amongst the zany action we had some more confirmation of the characters and their relationships.

A point about Shinigami's actor: it really sounds like he's changed his manner for the voice from what it was in the first few episodes. I thought it was a deliberate temporary thing for the 'danger' of the Sid-Stein related episodes, but apparently not. Huh. Oh, well, it's not bad, just making an observation.

I have finally caught up with this anime and I must say that I can see why so many people like it. What wizardz199 said was true. The first thing that strikes you from this anime is its style, from the laughing moon/sun to the charcter design and behavior, Soul Eater doesnt use the same geniric formula as other shonen's titles. I was a bit worried at first that they might put to much foucas into the whole ''collect 99 souls and 1 witch soul'' plot, but they seemed to have left that element in the prologue. The thing that worries me now is that I hope they start the plot soon as things might start to get boring with this formula soon (not that the last 6 episodes I watched were boring.)

The production value for the show is quite high, with only a few recycled shots and triks to extended the time of the fights and the episode, and to notice them you have to have a very keen eye or replay the episode a few times. And I must say, The soundtrack for the show is also becoming one of my most faviorate along with Death Note's, Ghost In the Shell: SAC and Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei's. The music for the charcters, the backgrounds and even the Opening all give the anime a uniqe feeling from other shonen soundtracks. I will have to wait and see if this sort of production and music will remain for the all of the 51 episodes.

I read many people complaning about Chiaki Omigawa's preformance as Maka, but I didn't find any thing odd about it. It is slightly different, but after the first 5 episodes, one gets used to it. If I have to say which actor I am slightly(not much of a proplem but just annoyed) unhappy with, I will have to say Death The Kid. Its not that I dont like Mamoru Miyano's voice, on the countrary I love his voice and I think his prefomance as Kid is excellent. Its just that from all the roles I heard him play as a leading character in an anime, Mamoru Miyano never seems to have any voice diffrentiation from any of the other charcters he played. Death Note, Gundam 00, Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations, Ouran High School Host Club and even Wolfs Rain , he just never changes his voice. His acting is fine as he changes his tone accourding to each situation, but I just wish he put effort in to making each preformance uniqe. Kid to me sound just like a compination of Tamaki(Ouran) and Kamui (TTR).
Other than that, I have no proplem with the rest of the VA. Yuya Uchida as Sien is perfect and capturies his personality perfectly, Rikiya Koyama uses a diffrent voice than his from Naruto and I will say it is better than his voice for Yamato. Black Star's voice is nothing new, the Thompson sisters and Soul's voice are okay. Out of all the weapon's voices the best hase to be Tsubaki's.

All in all, I am looking forward to this anime. I just hope it doesn't disappoint me like Claymore or ends like Kekkaishi.

episode 6. I know Death the Kid is really strong and all that, but I still feel like Maka and Soul have the most potential-- maybe even Stein has realized that as Maka begins to read soul waves better and better. Death the Kid and Patty and Liz are cute together but they are a bit annoying-- Maka and Soul complement each other so perfectly that it's right that they're the focus of the show. I can't wait to see the villain introduced and get some awesome fights involving all three meisters.

I'm not sure what people have to complain about. I hear nothing wrong with Maka's VA. Serious in places, more relaxed in others. It fits the sort of character Maka seems to be.

You're right about Kid's VA, though. As much as I like the man's performance, it is terribly similar to Tamaki, the main difference being that Tamaki was played for laughs in a comedy show, whereas Kid is far more serious (obsessions aside).

rainbowcourage - You have a point, not least because they're the main characters, and we've already seen Maka pull off Witch-hunter thing to an extent which surprised even Stein. Yes, they have potential. As does Kid, if Stein's estimation of him is to be believed.

The former might be more interesting to watch, considering Kid's power has been demonstrated so early on. We know he's good. And so does he. As Soul and Black Star found out to their detriment. Razz

Because in the first episode, Maka's VA sounds terribly amateurish (I wasn't impressed at some of her primal screams; that sounded flat). Granted there were some improvement as the episode progressed, but that bad first impression left a pretty bitter taste.

the only thing i noticed different about the late night version of the 1st episode was a different commercial bumper. which consisted of 5sec of shinigami-sama and a picture of blair in the bath.

Hmm. I might have to rewatch ep1 then, because it didn't occur to me at the time. Is Omigawa new to being a VA? She doesn't have an entry on the encyclopaedia. A new actor to a new role, I can understand why she might sound off to start with. Personally, as I said previously, I don't think she's doing badly.

Ooh, just noticed Kid's VA was in El Cazador de la Bruja as L.A of all people. Sheesh. Wouldn't have guessed that, though now that I think of it it makes sense; quite similar contrasts in L.A's manner. Can't speak for Klein Noteworthy's other examples, though.

So...manga readers. We know from Sid and Stein that Meisters can fight effectively without a weapon. Is the reverse the case for individual weapons? Or doesn't the explanation of the series's concepts go into any more detail in the manga, now that the basics have been established.

Well... spoiler[yes the weapons can and this point gets driven brutally to Soul in chapter 27 or 28.]

Duly noted. spoiler[I suspected that they could, given the necessity of partners synchronising wavelengths, and that its possible for soul energy (for want of a better description) to be manipulated on its own, as Stein in particular has shown so far]. Thanks.

Episode 6 finally broke the painful hit-or-miss pattern I've had with my enjoyment of the episodes. I really enjoyed episode 6. Then again, it was mainly because of Kid. He's just been a hoot thus far.

Hm.

I'm eager to watch episode 6, but I can only find it subbed by AEN or Tadashi... both of which I'm not overly impressed with. I've been getting the earlier episodes from Rumbel, who do a very good job of it, as far as I can tell.

My curiosity may get the better of me in this case, I feel.

This thread is sadly lacking in episode 7 discussion Sad

spoiler[And it was awesome! Of course I knew what was going to happen, but the atmosphere, action, and music made it a brand new experience. I especially loved the part where Maka and Chrona were fighting with the heartbeat in the background. That really made it nerve-wracking.

Sakamoto Maaya's performance was surprising. Has she done characters like this before?]

Edit: Oh, and because the gender issue is getting argued everywhere: spoiler[Chrona's gender is officially "unknown" according to the official site.]

People haven't been able to find a sub yet, possibly? I watch the raw, ostensibly because I wanted to pay attention to the visuals, actually because I wanted to just see it. :p

spoiler[I like Chrona. The situation with their weapon is wonderfully horrible, and its reflected in their movement and how Chrona's manner changes depending on what's happening or how Ragnorok is acting. It made the episode for me, disregarding the final scene with Soul being sliced up like that.]

Been reading on in the manga, and the structure has been a pleasant surprise. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but has just enough to entertain and interest as the storyline progresses. I'm finding myself liking Stein.
