I haven't found any threads close to this so I'm making one, if one exist please direct me...

1) I wish to talk about the adaptations of the novel and the novel itself if need-be.
2) I know of two mangas, Dragon Sister and Battle Vixens. Anyone read them? What you think? Anymore I do not know about?
3)Games are the Dynasty Warriors and the Japanes counter-part, although that one came first. Same qustions.
4) I heard and see an anime of it but won't talk about it. Anyone else?
5)The novel itself... Has anyone finished it? The games do no come close to the novel in terms of length.
6) Misc., anything else I didn't mention... I for one would like to know the name changes. I understand the each version of the novel is different but you can't have Chinese name in Japan(Battle Vixens)

If any troubles sorry inadvance.

I've read some of the actual novel; it's pretty awesome. You can find the entire story online pretty easily; it's the first Google result after the Wikipedia page. I should try reading it again.

I have the novel in four paperback volumes, but I haven't started it yet -- I'm still working on Outlaws of the Marsh a.k.a. The Water Margin, and I might spend a year working through Journey to the West next. I haven't read, watched, or played any of its derivatives.

edited for clarity

For the two who did read the novels, did you play the game or read the mangas?

Cao Cao to Tso Tso was easly enough to understand but the Japanese names was completely different.

Th novel for me was hard to follow because of the details. They named every name possible, most noteable character had three names, and ALL were used. Plus the ranks, and reward were to many to keep track.

I've played the Dynasty Warriors games, but the only anime/manga related title I've seen/read is Koihime Musou. DW4 was nice in that it had a decent encyclopedia that covered the basic events of the novel and a paragraph or so on most of the generals.

As for the name variation, I don't think that's just because it goes through Japanese first; I believe there are two main ways Chinese can be Romanized, like with Peking/Beijing.

I've read the novel and have played DW series of games even having a copy of the first DW game to Xbox 360 DW6.

As to novel being close to the video game incarnation? Well they try but then there is some fictional what-if's going on even in the "good" versions of the game as you need an answer for what happens if your playing the say Shu at the battle of Yi Ling and you win. And DW6 has plenty of "inconsistencies" see Lu Bu's story mode for that.

And there are plenty of anime and manga adaptations of the story as well as live action- Battle of The Red Cliffs is coming out soon.

About the names; I understand the differences when reading the novel. Its just "Dragon Sisters" follow DW names ( I say that because my novel has different name), while "Battle Vixens" while the setting is different, I guess thats why the names are different.

As for the games, 4 was when Koei started to follow the novel, I say. For the most part when the character died thats were the story mode ends. I guess that made the games too short cause in 6 the character closes the command of troops but are still there.

I couldn't stand the 2nd game. But I played 3 than 2.
