Anyone can post, but I'm primarily interested in what people in the US think of Viz's release that are invariably slower than Chuang Yi's releases. They both seem to release a new volume once a month, though.

I know that quite a few people who can afford it (I do, although I am lucky enough to get cheap CY manga from Kinokuniya in Australia and Singapore). I also buy Viz's releases to support them. What about everyone else? Smile

i think viz need to release alot of things faster fullmetal is one of them
other than that i think they do a great job translating the manga

chuang yi has an english license to fullmetal i'm so there i like buying books from everywhere just to see what each company has to offer
are they normal US manga sizes or Japanese sizes?

CY's mangas are slightly smaller than Viz's, and they're thinner. They don't omit any pages (that I've noticed), so you're getting a very similar product for a good price (some translations are different, but they're generally very, very good). I'd recommend the Furuba 23-manga set from Madman in Australia - they also deal in Chuang Yi manga.

Edit: Yeah, I'd love to see Viz release their flagship titles at a rate of one volume every two months. Smile

I've always wondered about Chuang Yi. I guess it's good to hear their translations are good, in case they ever have a series that's not out here that I want to read. But don't you have to import them to get them?

Keep in mind, they're pretty much caught up with FMA. They have to stagger the releases of any further volumes to keep the waits from getting even longer.

Mind you, Viz is increasing their release of Fullmetal Alchemist to a bi-monthly pattern from volumes 18 to 21.

Edit: Awkward wording.

In that case, that's awesome for FMA fans. Viz always has nice surprises.

I have no idea on the quality of Chuang Yi's FMA releases, but I know a lot of people in the Matantei Loki fan community started going to them when all North American distributors dropped the title, and the fans of the series who could read Japanese swore Chuang Yi's had a ton of translation errors, and the editing quality wasn't that great.

Still for a series with no other English option, it's great to have the option.

I prefer the Chuang Yi version. They take up less room and in general I find the translation to be better.
