Anyone know if the Daddy Hat from the Penguin Chiyo-chan episode of Azumanga Daioh is available for purchase? A bunch of people in my group wants to wear them for Otakon 2003.
If not, any recommendations on how to construct one? My home economics skills have severely deteriorated over the years, but the way I'm looking at it is to fold a large piece of felt in half and trace the outline for the hat. Then, cut out the hat, stitch the two halves together along the edge (but not the buttom part where it needs to be open to accomodate for one's head), flip it inside-out so the seam is on the inside, sew some eyes on it and bam, instant Daddy Hat.[/i]

You could probably alter a ski cap for that. Sew some eyes on the front and alter the top to make the ears.
The felt idea might work, but it's hard to tell in that picture where the seams are. (You would still see the seam when you flipped the hat "right side out"....just the bulky part of it would be on the inside.) The hat looks more like a sock (with one seam on the "toe) instead of a hat (with one seam on each side of the head).
