I've noticed that a few character designs look similar. Like in trigun monev the Gale looks like venom from spider-man, of course his name is venom spelled backwards that was easy. I am just wondering who else was inspired.

A lot of the Trigun villains are taken from other sources. For example, Zazie the Beast is a homage to various Frank Herbert stories (most notably Greenslaves).

I personally don't really see the Goku/Superman thing, especially since Dragonball was inspired much more by Journey to the West.

I don't know about DBZ and Superman, either, but in another Akira Toriyama manga called Dr. Slump Arare-chan, there was a character named Suppaman. He was obviously a parody of Superman. (He turns into Suppaman when he eats umeboshi. Umeboshi are suppai(sour) Wink )

well techniqelly all of them.

If memory serves, manga evolved from woodcuttings (Ukiyo-e) to what we would consider manga, after the influx of "American" comic strips in the early to mid 1900s.

Of course I could be wrong, but I know it's true for anime, cause America is where animation was born.

There is something I just noticed while watching Hellraiser, some of the Cenobites look like members of the God's Hand from Berserk.

Yes, it appears that Miura has gotten his inspiration from several diffrent sources. Most notably is some of his monster designs and their resemblance to the great Giger's work (he was responsible for the designs of the Alien movies). [/spoiler]
