I'm guessing MangaFox thinks they're either invulnerable to lawsuits, or really adventurous in their manga piracy. They've started hosting several VIZ series again according to this article by Brigid Alverson

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/10/bootleg-manga-site-goes-back-to-its-old-ways/

And have also outlawed complaining about how their site's illegal, or organizing anti-mangafox groups in their forums

"If you make it your goal to shut down Mangafox in anyway, via contact various companies, scanlators, members, organize a group, etc. you will be seen as obstructing the function of Mangafox and we will reserve the right to permanently ban you. This includes creating groups on and off MF, posting that your goals is to shut down Mangafox via on or offline sites, and sending and or hassling scanlators to have their content removed."

So yeah, kind of surprised they're doing all this- and also guessing VIZ's legal team'll be on it soon enough.

Wow, not only are they putting up licensed manga on their site again, they are banning anyone who tells them that is wrong. This is sad, I thought mangafox have change when they had remove alot of licensed manga from their site. What makes them think it's okay to put them up there again. I wonder when is Viz going to start taking action?

Here's an idea: Who gives a frak?

Just leave them alone. Viz will deal with them. Going around, talking shit about them, or pestering them or anyone else not only makes you a whistle blower, but something of a [do not insult other users] as well. You'll get absolutely nothing accomplished that way, except maybe piss off a few people on their side, and embarass yourself to a few people on this side. Granted, if you guys wanna think along the tracks of "having sides."

Just leave them be - whatever happens, happens. World ain't ending tomorrow.

Well, now I feel less happy about answering your question about Infinity Studios :(

All I did was point out Brigid Alverson's article. Brigid's a pretty noted blogger and journalist in the anime/manga community, and had some good points to bring up and alert people too. Given ANN posted it on their news section the next day, I'm guessing it was a good thing to direct them too.

There's lots of naive fans who have no idea what's going on, and MangaFox's new policies are about deliberately hiding it, and preventing people from discussing the illegal nature of their business on their forum. That itself is something that might make people want to speak out about the issues involved.

And again, as I pointed out, ANN has a news thread about this in the main forum, which I linked to, directing those who wished to discuss the Robot6 article to ANN's official thread. Why bash me in this thread a week later? I bring up these issues because of the questionable way these companies [and their supporters] treat creators, and my personal issues w/this stuff as someone who has made comics for 10 years.

This is the first (and hopefully last ) time I've seen the term "whistle blower" used as a pejorative. Rolling Eyes

Well if your point is that you cannot express yourself without insulting people then consider it made.

Ugh, not again. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if they uploaded actual scans of the official releases.

Now, I never insulted anyone in particular! Never! Neutral I take offense to that.

...I merely pointed out an aspect of the human soul. Now, whether you're insulted by that aspect, well, that depends whether you embrace it... >:3

Oh the Internet, such an amusing place, Illegal content runs rampet, causing companies and fans needless headaches. I sincerly hope that mangafox and all other sites that distribute manga, comics and anime illegally, get what they deserve. ( That being a slow emberrasing painfu demise.)l

You like a site that scans artists books [including some domestic artists] posts them online and doesn't pay them anything for it or get their permission? That openly and deliberately rips off domestic licensors (including scanning their editions directly) and does it's best to make it near impossible to remove the content?

I can understand why some naive fans might check it out, but knowing what I do about the site, I don't like it and think people shouldn't support it in anyway whatsoever. Comic artists work too hard and are very dependent on your legal consumption of their work to make a living, so I find it very disgusting that sites like MangaFox actively promote ripping them off and encourage fans to do so. They deserve better from fans for all the work they do. I'd much rather support a hard working artist then some guy who takes advantage of teens to line his pockets with money that should of gone to the people who wrote, drew, edited, designed and published the stuff.

You make your own choices, just be sure to make them with the artist/writers/other people in the manga/comic business in mind. Be considerate of them.
