You could have taken some of those advertisements off and other things irrelevant to the encyclopedia and news articles. And I hope you are hosting the video streaming service on a separate machine, and ask the people watching those videos to pay for the extra server needed for video streaming. Then again, they could have just gone to Crunchyroll.

Good luck. I can't recall ever actually seeing a request go through outside of the Novel forum, and that was only after they started reviewing books.

Shhh. I knew if I requested it there it wouldn't be granted, but let's keep this a secret!

I was actually already blocking those for a while before I became a subscriber at the beginning of the year. The difference is now I don't feel any guilt over it.

Plus I don't have to worry about anyone seeing those darned Anime Castle ads over my shoulder at work.

I don't usually use the forums. The regular servers are fast enough for me (and tab browsing alleviates the wait). I usually surf with javascript off and adblock plus (so nothing annoys me). Don't usually watch the videos (could just buy or download anyways). It's not the money; I'm just not into subscriptions. But this site is plenty useful, and I guess if it's needed, it's needed. Good luck.

One question, if I may? If I subscribe, will I be able to see your streaming videos, even though they are region blocked to me at present? Wink

No, unfortunately, even subscribers are still subject to region blocks Sad

Same for non-American staff. Rolling Eyes However, there's a small software you can install to bypass the limitation. The software was not designed for this purpose and I discovered this feature by accident but it worked anyway. Not sure if it is okay to talk about it here though.

I paid my $20 to support ANN. About 1/3rd less than I support CR so I was like... that's it? Only $20? Done.

I'm not paying $20 to have to then buy a proxy program to watch junk.

By that point, donning the eyepatch is just more simple (and just as legal, which is to say not legal).

Sorry your servers are going do wally but you just don't have anything I want to buy.

Kinda sad that the ads don't bother me, and always make a point to stay away funny colored text to avoid any glitches caused by random roll-out ads. I do kinda wish they would fix the dimensions on the top banner ad... it looks funny to always have scroll-bars on the top & right.

What will the server be named? You already have skuld and peorth.

Maybe the name-a-server surveys will be subscriber only this time, which is almost a shame considering how infrequent they are to start and quick to close anyway.

Maybe the name-a-server becomes a $10k 5-yr naming rights! Laughing

Is the increased load the reason I am now being logged out every day or two, instead of once or twice a month?

I knew this, actually. Hence the smiley, which is why I rarely use them. It seems the "attitude" of the message isn't changed with them.

Consider it a stupid joke.

But more importantly:

ANN isn't a charity, so we don't feel it is appropriate to request "donations."

Why in the hell would ANN ever feel like a charity asking for donations? Is this akin to those guys handing out tissues?

There's a big difference here, given that ANN isn't just "standing".

Open up the donation link. Not everyone may want to be subscribers, especially to those whose only benefit are the ad free and other forum options which may not warrant $20 (streaming vids are region locked), but will be willing to offer $5.

Instead of calling it "donations", call it for what it is: "Server Funding".

I knew it! You're the Demoman incarnate!

I'm not too happy with the legal status quo as regards video content, but I started subscribing before the streaming section was implemented. Were I to cease renewing my current subscription because of the existing restrictions, I'd lose my access to the Community forum, along with ad-free browsing settings and the less sluggish server. I wouldn't be at all satisfied if I sacrificed these benefits.

Anyways, subscribed and all that. Thought there was some shenanigans going on at first, since I got the message of "There has been a problem while processing the subscription. The problem has been logged and an email has been sent to the webmaster. We'll look into it as soon as possible. Thank you for your comprehension. ", but it would appear that I am on the faster server now, so I guess the point is moot. But, if I hadn't gotten on, then thanking me for my comprehension would have been wasted words since there wouldn't have been any comprehension, and I'd be accusing people of thievery Wink
