Well, a character design was recently released in a Japanese magazine, and it's schedualed aparently for a Tv Asahi January 2005 release.
Scan can be found at http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=37159&topic=17369932 , and it's also where some more info and speculation can be found. Also thanks goes out from me to my friend Maiki for pointing it out to me.

Interesting, i hope they go through with it. Its gonna be hard to beat out those CG movie scenes, but if they can make it better with anime style, then more power to them.
I just hope that they keep the same seiyuu's.

I always thought Xenosaga would make a good anime. I'd watch it if it comes out.

You say that like it's a bad thing...
Heh, I jest, I loved Xenosaga, but considered it already some sort of interactive movie, similar to Metal Gear Solid II: Sons of Liberty.

Personally, if I'm going to invest time in a game, I'd rather play it than watch it. That's the whole concept of a game, which seems to be gradually slipping out of Squenix's grasp. If they get up to a Final Fantasy sixteen, or for that matter by the time they finish this whole Xenosaga jazz, I guarantee it'll be seventy hours of video footage with a collective fifteen minutes of real gameplay...and that'll be all breaking crates for power items.
If Squenix is this hell-bent on making something so incredibly linear, I say they just convert to a CG animation studio and stick to stuff like Advent Children. At this point, it'd be a near-seamless shift. This whole "more cutscenes than gameplay" habit of theirs is seriously hurting the quality of their games, and I personally fear it'd be a bad influence on other gaming studios since Squenix is such a big player in the industry.

But once you get past the start of the game the world opens up and there is more game play and less of the plot development. But for that matter Xenogears was long winded as well so it was only to be expected that Xenosaga would be. It is very hard to tell the story that they are trying to tell and there not be alot of cut scenes.

If you are looking for a game that is more game play than story then I suggest that you stop playing RPGs and start playing games like Silent Hill, or Half-Life.

Not necessarily. I'd say Bioware's pretty much got down the idea of a role-playing game (Squenix seems to forget there's a G in RPG) that doesn't have to slam you over the head with hour after mind-numbing hour of excessive cutscenes in order to tell a deep, rich, fulfilling story.

Actually, the creators of Xenosaga moved out of Square during the creation of Xenosaga. They are now Monolith Soft, a subcompany of Namco.
As for the anime version of Xenosaga? IF they include new information and stuff than I will be interested in watching it.

Most modern RPGs (i.e. made in the past year or so) tend to go over board on the cut-scenes, but on the other hand there may be upwards of 40 hours of game play in the game. Honestly the people that complain about Xenosaga being "all cut scenes" annoy me, because like I said - the beginning was excessive, but once you past that it's about par normal for an RPG. Heck, even Star Ocean: Till the End of Time starts out with an extended cut scene that you can't skip - at least most of the ones in Xenosaga you can skip.
The bottom line is this – Bioware tends to be the exception to the current rule of long cut scenes.

Jeez. When I first saw Xenosaga I was like, "the O/U for a Japanimation to be in the works - 3 years." Guess I was off a bit.

I'd say squeenix has got a fair grasp on the RPG. Final Fantasy Ten may have had some cut scenes, but it had hundreds of hours of gameplay(if you're a perfectionist). Also, their most recent games(Star Ocean:till the end of time, Final FantasyXI) have a crap load of gameplay in each of them.
Besides the point, as someone already pointed out, Xenosaga was made by Monolith Soft. So although they were formerly with square, they aren't anymore, and the Xeno series has always emphasized story more than actual gameplay, so I think a Xenosaga/gears related anime could be a very good thing.
