The last thread I've found pertaining directly to Samura was made in 2003 so I'm just gonna start a new one, because it's surprisingly hard to find other people, even among manga readers, who even know of Blade or any of Samura's other works, not to mention the difficulty in actually finding his other work.

This is sad becasue Samura really is one of the best and most unique Manga artists out there. One of the reasons I read very few manga today is because BotI being my first manga kinda spoiled me with its art, and it's only gotten better as the series has progressed.

The official Dark Horse translations of Blade are up to volume 20 but 21 should be coming out in July.

Furthermore, almost no one seems to be scanlating Blade. I've found one blog offering scanlations and those are only a few chapters ahead of Dark Horse and about 40 chapters behind where the raws are.

As for Samura's other series, there's another manga called Ohikikoshi that's also published by Dark Horse.

Samura has also done a couple one-shot mangas (that I know of). One of them is called Emerald and is a western which is a nice contrast to Blade and suits Samura's art just as well. The other is called Bradherley's Coach which I haven't read but I here involves little girls in some quite frightening situations.

Does anyone here know anything additional about Samura's works?

He's done a few one off stories, usually with some vaguely or blatant erotic bent to them. I remember seeing a French scanlation of a smutty Darkstalkers short he apparently did for some vampire themed book. I also recently saw another one shot called Bridgets Lunch (I think) that was about a young orphan girl being hired to take care of this hideously deformed and insane nobleman.

Late last year there was also something about a new series or one off he was doing for an Afternoon magazine spin off. I did a little digging and pulled up the mention of it..

Press Release: Fujishima's Residence Paradise in new Kodansha Magazine, New Press Release: Detailed Information

Blade of the Immortal's Hiroaki Samura will launch Halcyon Lunch, a story about a man who loses everything and then meets a girl who will eat anything.

Haven't heard anything about it since.

I know he also does a lot of torture porn drawings and painting for.. well, I don't know what for. It's some rough stuff from what little I've seen.

That's about all I can think of and have heard about, except for his torture porn pin up work.

Hrm.. Oh! I remember hearing that Dark Horse wanted to bring Emerald over as part of Ohikkoshi and that Samura shot that idea down claiming that he wanted to do more with the story at some point, but that was years ago so who knows if that will ever happen.

My only experience with Samura is reading BOTI in English a few years ago, which I may or may not ever bother catching up on since it's getting pretty long. Thankfully, the dude seems to like having a side series that he can chip away at slowly enough for him to maintain his monthly schedule for Blade of the Immortal, and I will no doubt read his shorter work in the near future (and I guess when I do I will report back to this topic).

So I guess I don't have too much to contribute to the topic at this point except that Halcyon Lunch is indeed a serial (in fact I believe Samura is doing the cover for the next issue of Good Afternoon), and also that Samura made an appearance in the latest issue of Erotics F, though not in the way one might expect. The issue was a special on Jiro Matsumoto, and it ran a conversation between Matsumoto, Samura, and a couple other cool manga guys as they played mahjong at Samura's house, plus they apparently all drew a "report" of the game, whatever the hell that means. All in all I'm sure we can all agree it sounds pretty cool.

Yeah I just found a page at a manga site that has what is probably most everything he's done (except the Guro). So are Ohikkoshi and Halcyon Lunch going to be full series?

Ohikkoshi's a one off. The DH edition contains Ohikkoshi and two shorter works, one about an aspiring Shojo creator and the other is a quick tale about his trip to.. somewhere, don't remember where.

Bradherley's Coach is actually a collection centered around the concept of how girls are essentially given to prisoners to satiate the inmates' lust and temper their aggressiveness. Only the first two actually show the rapes, and they're not detailed nor overly-dramatized. After that, Samura continually shifts focus from the orphans, inmates, guards and the Bradherley family that heads the operation.

Bradherley's Coach can be a difficult read, but it's also the best thing that Samura has done.

Yeah I just read it and it's really good. Also glad that a new BotI chapter finally got released last week.
