Blog post goes as follows:
Quote:

Oct 3, 10 is an important day in Fullmetal Alchemist lore (10/3/11 in FMA: Brotherhood). This date, inscribed inside of Ed’s pocket watch as “Don’t Forget 3.Oct.10,” marks the moment when the Elric brothers began their journey by setting their childhood home ablaze, vowing to never turn back.

We want to officially recognize October 3 as FMA Day, giving fans of the series a day to reflect on what FMA means to them. Some may see it as a solemn day commemorating the trials faced by the Elrics in their quest to become whole again. Others will think of it as a celebration, honoring the brothers’ determination in the face of adversity. And others still will remember those rowdy Risembool Rangers. When did you first see Fullmetal Alchemist? What about FMA has inspired you? What has given you pause? How will you observe FMA Day?

To help everyone remember FMA Day, we’re giving away some Fullmetal Alchemist items here and on Twitter. Also, keep an eye on Mania.com’s Anime/Manga section this weekend, as they will also be supporting our FMA Day with a giveaway.

* FMA 2011 Calendar
* FMA:B Messenger Bag – Don’t Forget
* FMA:B Pin Set – Transmutation Circles
* FMA:B Pin Set – Chibi Ed & Al
* FMA:B Dog Tag – Al
* FMA:B Wristband – Flame Alchemist -Roy Mustang
* FMA:B Cell Phone Charm

It’d be great if we could really make this an official holiday in the anime community, so we appreciate everyone’s support this weekend. Spread the word and let’s make FMA Day happen. If you haven’t seen the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, Season 1 VC just released on DVD and Season 2 VC will be available Oct. 26th.

Lol ok this is ridiculous. We do not need a frikkin FMA day Anime hyper. It's just one frikkin Anime series for crying out loud. It's not as if some repressed peoples somewhere just threw off a hated dictator or many lives where saved by an act of true heroism. That's what remembrance days are for. Stuff like this pollutes their meaning.

Well... At least it isn't as bad as that "Risembool Rangers" bullshit...

At least with this, you can get free crap instead of watching two voice actors going off on a misguided ego trip.

(...Inconsistency? Aren't...all ego trips technically misguided? =.= )

I would use scathing words when referring to a certain part of the anime fandom but I will remain civil.

Risembool Rangers, the official fan club of Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric), web site located here

You can not mention the Risembool Rangers without including the Miniskirt Army.

Miniskirt Army, the official fan club of Travis Willingham (Colonel Roy Mustang), web site located here

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but doesn't the FMA franchise employ a non-Gregorian calendar? It seems to me that this is a marketing/advertising ploy..... (although I suppose that I could be wrong)

Only when it gains any attention. Which it won't- much like Hetalia Day, Talk to Your Cat Day, Talk Like a Pirate Day, or the March 14th/20th holiday I can't mention here but is surely endorsed by all non-single men who've heard of it (wink wink, nudge nudge), this is an excuse for people to do something fun. Schools and banks won't close, but a group of friends wanting something to do now have a silly excuse to watch cartoons together. It's no more hurtful to true observances than a summer street fair.

Also, I LIKE the rangers/miniskirt people. They have fun and make cons more interesting. Nothing wrong with that in my book! Very Happy

You're absolutely right. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, all I'm upset about is the fact that I forgot and didn't realize I could have gotten free stuff Laughing

Common guys, where all that negative energy comes from? It's not like they are setting up an international holiday everyone needs to observe or die upon a painful death upon refusal to celebrate.
Althoug I would certainly not join neither the Risembool Army (???) nor the Miniskirt Army (!!!), and although I had forgotten all about it, I would have commemorated this lovely day by watching my favourite FMA episode.

Oi! I'll have you know those are both very sacred days! They're both about what it means to transcend from being a human, and into a higher species.

Kind of like switching from PC to Mac. Only without all of the arrogance.
