Considering she's a sexy female manga character.... I can't help but think that some lonely otaku tried to use the statue as his own personal love pillow. That or some drunk salary man was walking home after a long night and thought he found a really quiet woman to get it on with.

A more depressing thought: Someone tried to remove her and sell her as scrap metal. With Copper going for around $3.50 a pound, they probably saw her as an easy target.
