I thought it was supposed to have released last week on the 5th? Has anyone seen it in stores or something because Amazon still has it on preorder. Does anyone even have a copy? Heeeeelp!

Fret not; I just talked to the owner of my comicbook store yesterday and SVaR will be in stores this wednesday (it's Viz; do you expect them to be consistant?).
But yeah, I was actually just going to start a topic about this. To anyone reading this, do yourself a favor and pick this amazing manga up. Amazing art and innovative storytelling, plus some of the best characters out there.

Hehe. Sorry, I just get a little worked up when something this good comes along. For anyone who gets it, post your thoughts! I'm glad Viz decided to put the two volumes together. Naming it Sexy Voice and Robo instead of Sexy Voice and Robo volume 1 or something also gives me the impression that Viz as well thinks that Kuroda-san will never finish it. Damn, oh well.

Actually, it is being listed as Sexy Voice and Robo volume 1. I'm not sure if the actual cover will have a one on it though.
As for the hiatus, the people at Shogakukan apparantly claimed it was because of an illness, but Kuroda has since done a ton of stuff for Kodansha, his publisher before. Whether there was a fallout between him and Shogakukan or he just doesn't want to write more of it right now is up for grabs.

It's a bit hard to describe this series simply because while very entertaining and well told, I don't believe the plot is the real focus. I might be getting ahead of myself, but I'd liken SVaR to Pulp Fiction, not in subject matter, but because the appeal lies in the way it's told. Kuroda's narrative and pacing is really innovative and quite entertaining, and like PF, the characters are memorable, but not in the usual manga way (by that I mean you aren't going to see Robo fansites popping up everywhere). Plus, it's got some of the most jaw-droppingly amazing art you've ever seen.
Sorry for the weird description, but it's really one of those things you have to read to understand what's great about it.

Just picked it up, and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with the overall product. When they make the effort, Viz can put out great trades.
I prefer the original cover, as the lettering looks a bit half-assed, but the colors are nice. Good paper and ink make Kuroda's art look especially nice, as does the large format. While Viz didn't label the outside cover, the flap (also a nice touch) bears the Editor's Choice label. Add a nice intro by Kuroda and a great afterword and you've got an attractive little package. Not to mention the content is some of the best so far this year.
Again I'll urge people to get over the large size/price tag and buy this amazing piece of manga. Since it's 400 pages, oversized and has great matterials, you're actually getting alot more bang-for-your-buck than buying most 10 trades. That's the only reason I regret Viz combining the two volumes: it might drive some people away. But don't be one of them, BUY IT (and hope it sells enough for them to licence Nasu and Japan Tengu Party).

Amazon.com has the cheapest price for SVaR ($13). I order it with Blade of the Immortal 14 ($12) to get free shipping over 25 dollar. Very Happy

Gah! That's what I should have done! I ordered the new Harry Potter on Amazon.com yesterday and picked up the latest PSME for the free shipping cause I couldn't think of anything else I wanted... grr. I should have gotten SVaR instead. Lord knows I want it badly enough. Anime cry

Gotta love amazon. Recently it seems they got a ton of old stuff in, including some Viz graphic novels that I thought were gone for good. Plus, they actually have Dan Clowes' "Pussey!" not (that's pronounces "poo-say" Laughing ).

Is that good? I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of Ghost World, but I DO like his drawing style. (Sorry to veer off topic!)

I'm not a fanatical Clowes fan, but he has some really great stuff. I thought Ghost World was a little overrated also, but Like A Velvet Glove Cast in Iron is great, and David Boring is an interesting read. Though I'm not really a superhero geek, or a comicbook geek for that matter, the humor in Pussey! rings true, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Plus, it's only 9 bucks on amazon, so I couldn't resist picking it up.
