Although ANN has a strict policy requiring forum users to add adequate reasoning for favorites and recommendation lists, sometimes I still find them lacking: they are "good" list threads, yet they are still list threads. Maybe it's time to add some artistic flavor (or babbling). Wink

---- (babbling starts) ----

Last Sunday, I decided to visit a multimedia expo downtown Taipei, but stomach aches prevented me to leave my apartment on time. At 11:30, while waiting the bus at the bus stop, I started browsing the store front of a small bookstore right besides 7-11 (where I grabbed my brunch). It has more manga than most average bookstore, but I'd still consider it a regular one, before I see this:

It's 空の境界 (Kara no Kyoukai), written by Kinoko Nasu, creator of Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. A regular bookstore of its size would not acquire such a book, so I decided to enter. The interior has more manga, but most of them are popular shounen titles. Right before the moment to step out the store, I noticed something on the shelf --

It's YKK volume 12. Shocked Anime exclamation

With a shaky hand, I bought it right away.

After reading it on the bus, I looked out the window. It's not post-cataclysmic Miura Peninsula, nor terraformed Neo-Venezia; it's City of Taipei, with over three million population. Yet, I can still feel the same moving emotion, at a tiny bookstore in a metropolis. By chance of luck, a touching story can happen to anyone at the least expected time and place. Anime catgrin

---- (babbling ends) ----

Anyone wants to share a moving experience that oneself has "become" a character in manga -- NOT cosplaying, but transformed into the character by unexpected events?

I dont really have a story but I dont really get it. I mean, I have noticed that it takes a while for certain stores to obtain newly released mangas (such as BERSERK volume 8 Evil or Very Mad). So why is it so amazing? I mean, there are lots of book stores in cities that sell hard to find books. So why is it so amazing that you found volume 12 there?

Excuse me if my questions above come out snotty, I am truley scincere.

Negative. Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

I've been dozens of manga rentals and none of them has it for rent. Many clerks have never even heard the title. Even the largest bookstore chain in Taiwan took two weeks to collect volume 1-11 for me from various sources, so I was really surprised to see a local, small bookstore carries BOTH Kara no Kyoukai and YKK.

Here is a nice picture of a cafe on the island I served as a Coast Guard for 20 months. It also explains why I fell in love to YKK. On the very same island (less than 9 square kilometers -- about 3.5 square miles) I bought my Nausicaa manga. The small (one of the two on the island) manga rental is located at 26°13′30″ North, 120°0′0″ East; use Google Earth to find it. By the way, as I'm writing this post, the island is being pounded by a typhoon. I wonder how would that cafe endure it....

A smaller picture at a similar angle:

Both pictures were taken at a small bay with a big chunk of rock, nicknamed "turtle," at 26°13′35″ North, 119°58′59″ East.

Ahem. I got more than a little bit carried away. Shall we return to the original topic?
