Why does Mewtwo sound like a girl now?

First off: Are you talking about the Japanese dub vs English dub? Don't even start. Second: Because Mewtwo is played by a girl this time around. In the first movie (in Japanese), Mewtwo was played by a man. |

I'm confused with Mewtwo's voice change too.
Mewtwo was obviously male in both dubs, and suddenly he has a female voice. It's too much of a jump. Either this Mewtwo is a different Mewtwo, or Mewtwo's new form and importance with X and Y allowed it to change gender. |

Mewtwo is genderless, so it doesn't matter how its telepathic made up voice sounds.

Oh it matters quite a bit here. Regardless of gender, it sounds very feminine here, something the original Mewtwo did not. My fear is they're just blatantly ignoring cannon and it's a "different" one.

This is gonna be good. And his name isn't Basil, it's Virgil. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Virgil

Mewtwo's still having his "WHO AM I? WHERE DO I BELONG?" problem?
Get over it. It's been a decade! |

Yeah, and Ash is still 10, so we're clearly already having issues. |

Thank you Mr. 4Kids for this lovely hypocritical message. And I thought it was confirmed this was a different Mewtwo than the one from the movie. Virgil being the main star is a bit of a surprise, but I guess it works given his job. |

That voice... I'm torn, Not sure whether I want to hope that this is another Mewtwo somehow, or hope that it's just the same one and... and... neither of those sound appealing- why did they do that?
Please let there be some kinda reason (even if I probably won't like it )
And I gotta say, while the other form looks cool, I still prefer his original. He just does not look as menacing... or... or even like his character at all. Like the old one. Totally lost, not sure what to think Still not hating the new form, it does look awesome, and I'm not against it being a form I just... Don't know what to think |

I believe they are probably going for a different spin on Mewtwo's origin story considering it has that other form. I think it's best to treat the two movies as separate. Of course I can't really know how or if they tie into each other until the movie is out. Mewtwo was the antagonist in the first movie, but I don't think this alternate Mewtwo is as bitter or vengeful. Perhaps they are stereotyping a bit by using a masculine voice for the Mewtwo in the first movie (as a threatening generic antagonist), and using a feminine voice for the new Mewtwo, who apparently saves humans (in Dunc's description) rather than exact some crazy revenge plan on them. |

That wouldn't make sense since Mewtwo had the same voice when he came back in the "Mewtwo: I Am Here" TV special and wasn't a villain anymore there either and kind and gentle.

It's a Pokemon, who cares if it's goddamn voice actress's gender matches the perceived gender of a fictional creature.

Did feel iffy about the female voice actor but does it matter in the end? No. On top of that, we should have stopped watching this show a long time ago thus making new voices fitting for the new generation (pun intended). |
