Just letting you know that The Boondocks will be on the network Nov. 6 11p.m. The official site's here.
A profile on the show-which mentions its anime influence-can be found here. (The comic also mentioned Spirited Away a while back.)An ad is up here, and a teaser can be found here in the July 29 update. Enjoy.

And are we really gonna be hearing the n-word on AS? Damn, CN just gets better and better. Laughing

I imagine this will catch the attention of all the wierdos in school who go "Snap, dawg!" and "What up, g?"

The art style looks like it was influenced by Samurai Champloo.

heh, the Boondocks is a funny comic, but I never really realized its anime influence before

Animefan: Actually, it's been around long before Champloo, even before Tokyo Tribes, since he started it in college. Akira's definitely an influence, though. At one point, McGruder planned to introduce into the series a Japanese kid named Hiro who had a scooter which looked similar to Kaneda's bike.

also the comic has had a few strips parodying anime. i can't wait to see how Mcgruder's sense of humor is taken by the adult swim audience.

You never know, it may very well get cancelled after all the anti-anime dumbasses complain, thinking that it actually is a Japanese series. That, or it will skyrocket in ratings, but only because those same anti-anime freaks will be watching it in the hopes that it will bash what we love. They probably don't know the difference between "making fun of" and "parodying," so they'll be dissappointed.

I've read a few strips in my local magazine, and I thought there must be an anime influence, and then I thought - Nah, I'm just letting my fandom out too often. Once seeing some of GATSU's links though, it becomes clearer. An animated version would be a much surer way to get it, because I don't get the newspaper, nor do I have the time to read it.

Hmm the show looks intersting. There isn't anything funnier than an anime parody. Especially when the parody is on otakus or something. In the artwork, I think I see a bit of the FLCL character design (or maybe it's just me?)

The comic predates FLCL. Aaron's been drawing since '96.

Without getting into the politics of the strip, I thought, for the first year or so (in syndication, I'm not talking about the Source strips, which I've never read), the strip seemed like it could be almost a spiritual successor to Bloom County, but then, in the autumn of 2000, Aaron McGruder introduced a seemingly interminable storyline about Tom living with the Freemans, and, since then, the strip's been okay but, too often, it's just photocopied panels with "talking head" Huey and "talking head" Cesar just jabberin'. Too many of the interesting supporting characters introduced during the first year are mostly ignored.

Tenchi: I know how you feel. It gets a little bit dry at times, but Aaron's said that he's had little time to expand the material, since he's had to look for assistants and a network to greenlight the cartoon. (Not to mention he's stated he wants to keep the kids the same age for the remainder of the strip.) But if you've been keeping up, Tom and Jazmine have recently returned, albeit still not enough for the fans.

Finally, black people drawn somewhat non-stereotypical in an Japanese anime/anime style. I can die now. Crying or Very sad

Actually regarding inspiration he was going to quit untill 9/11 happened and Bush did more stupid stuff, then MacGruder sorta "rediscovered" his mission.
