I was just wandering about GTO. My friend told me allot about it, it sounds good so I was just wandering what you people think about it

It was the very first anime I saw, and I'm thankful for that. Because of this anime, I am now a proud anime addict haha. It's hilarious, good plot and Onizuka is an amazing character. (I prefer the live action over the anime though).

well it's really great man, bout 47 eps long... it's just so humorous although there are the occasional serious bits... its a good show man, you won't regret seeing it

GTO is an absolute work of comedic drama. The concept of an ex-gang leader wanting to become a school teacher and inherting THE worst class is intriguing enough. But the best part is seeing how he interacts with all of them, while teaching how to live life.
The comedy itself ranges from cooky to almost zany, but a lot of it stays pretty down to earth. However, it mixes SO well with the drama. A lot of the scenarios and suspenseful situations are referred to as "slice of life," meaning they take a chunk of realism from how some people might experience these things in person. I found a lot of it to be very well written and greatly enjoyed how all of them were resolved, being in a very "cool, but believable" fashion. The music is a bit synthesized sounding, but it uses a good combination of rock, jazz, and pop themes to capture the essence of many different emotions. However, many of those pieces do wonders for the show itself. Yusuke Honma did a very good job of using various trumpet, piano, and guitar scores to really bring out a plethora of ambiance. Much of the enjoyment, though, comes from the voice acting. Wataru Takagi is hilarious, yet incredibly charismatic in his role as the great teacher. His supporting cast is also very well backed by other fine seiyuu such as the pleasant Fumiko Orikasa, the ever talented Tomokazu Seki, and the always spazzy sounding Yuuichi Nagashima. The dub is plain awful. I like Steve Blum a LOT, but the poorly casted voices and occassional dialogue changes or Americanizing really kills the show entirely. Trust me, I GUARANTEE you will find at least some enjoyment watching this series one time through in Japanese  .
There is also a live action series as well and I find it to be even MORE dramatic and fulfilling than the anime, but they each have their own merits and I'll leave it to you to check it out after (or before, if you want) the anime. You'll enjoy the anime a lot more if you don't watch the live-action version after the anime rather than before. |

I agree. I saw the live-action series after the anime and love them both. I've actually heard of more people NOT liking the anime when seeing the live-action first. And there's also a live-action movie that follows the series, but it's crap. I would not recommend it at all unless you see the series and TV special. But even still, the movie is plain awful  .

Yeah well I was going to say its one of my favs, but the reasons have all been addressed by the others. Yeah basically I find it one of the best slice of life shows I have ever seen.
