I just saw it for the first time. I am not new to anime. Most importantly I am curious about something. When do Belldandy and Keiichi get it on? After being together this long I find it unreal that they aren't already married or at least doing the wild thing on a regular basis.

Part of what piques my curiosity is that it isn't entirely clear from the movie - Keiichi was surprised when the little girl covered his eyes when Belldandy suddenly changed her clothes (and briefly appeared naked) upon waking up after encountering Celestin. Of course, even if Belldandy ordinarily allowed Keiichi to see her sans clothing it would not necessarily imply doing it, especially since you would figure the little girl is old enough to know the facts of life if in fact Belldandy and Keiichi were sleeping together.

You'll never see Keichi touch Belldandy. I don't think this has ever happened in the manga either and it's been going on for over a decade.

Maybe it'll be like Maison Ikkoku where they only do it when the manga is about to end. But if you want to see Keichi and Belldandy action, your only avenue is H-doujinshi.

I personally think it's cute that they haven't done the nasty. I think that's what keeps the manga appealing. That Keichi and Belldandy truly love each other and that they've managed to stay totally pure and virginal all this time.

Yeah, hard as it is to believe there really ARE people out there that wait until their wedding night. Belldandy is very traditional, just living under the same roof is probably already quite a stretch for her, I'm sure she's just waiting for the right time.

What exactly do you mean by "touch"? Didn't Keiichi rub sunscreen lotion on Belldandy at the beach (I missed that subplot entirely and only have word of mouth to go on)? Even if we didn't see it happen why would Urd (however you spell it) even make the aphrodisiac sunscreen if touching her wasn't permissable in the first place.

I don't want to SEE them do it. You can put in subtle hints to let the audience know what's going on. Did you ever see Jon Luvitz's Tales of Ribaldry on Saturday Night Live? When the sexuality gets blatant its distasteful.

Like the Tenchi OAV? It's etchi, not hentai.

They didn't show them doing it in the Maison Ikoku manga did they?

The word that comes to my mind is not "pure" it is "prude." If you want the audience to empathize with your characters - make them realistic.
I can empathize with being overly proper concerning a prize like Belldandy to a point, but I think the overriding concern here is sales and marketing. If they get it on or get married and/or one of them graduates and gets a job you change your target audience. From this perspective the idea of the series must be that they lose their audience as it gets older but get new recruits who are growing up. Belldandy at home raising a kid while Keiichi becomes Dilbert. Now that I've thougt about the logical conclusion of this line of thinking I understand why it will never happen. Time can never really progress for the characters.

But why do we have to know, why is it important, why should we care? Them having sex or implying that they've had sex isn't going to add anything to the series and judging by the legions of fans it hasn't taken anything away from it either. I care about their sex life about as much as I do yours. Rolling Eyes

Yes. It's very tastefully done though. What you;d expect in a good love story.

I thought the forest at the end of AMG would have been a good place to get it on.

I thought the drunken karaoke party at the beginning would have been even better.

Doesn't life suck?

Showing Belldandy being sexually interested in Keichii = massive sales loss to the thousands of fanboys. Seriously. Demographics are weird, people.

I don't mean as in physical touch, I mean as in sex. Do I have to spell everything out to you?

The way you whine about Keiichi and Belldandy not having sex, it sure sounds like you want to see them do it.

As had been mentioned by others, yes. Not in total hard graphic terms, but romantic, tasteful terms. This is Takahashi we're talking about.

I empathize with them just fine, thanks. If I was Keiichi, I'd totally be the same way. I'm no prude either, but think of it this way, Belldandy is a goddess. You wanna mess with a goddess, not to mention her goddess sisters? You force the sex on her. Be my guest.

Well, all I can say is ten years of manga and thousands of dedicated readers show that this formula works. Maybe, when the time is right, Fujishima will enter the idea of sex between Keiichi and Belldandy. But you know, I'm perfectly fine seeing them as happy, virginal lovers that stay with each other because of the romance and not for the sex. It's nice to see characters like that once in a while. Sure it's not realistic, but then, we all read manga to escape from realism from time to time. In an ideal world, there'd be more couples like this, but again, this is not realistic. But we readers sure like it like this.

Anyway, I don't think that Ah! My Goddess! is the right title for you. If you can't stand the unrealistic prudishness of it all, I highly suggest another series.

One thing that I wonder about at the ending of the OVA was if the ring was an engagement ring or just a present. The impression that I got from the ending is that it was ment to firmly establish the two as a couple, and not an engagement ring. But the impression that I got from the song playing during the credits is that Keiichi proposed to Belldandy (The lyrics of the song are about a couple seeing a wedding, and the boyfrind propsing to the girl). So I was wondering if anyone had the same idea from it.
Overall my impression of AMG is that when it comes to the end of the manga the final story will the the wedding of Keiichi and Belldandy. As far as I can tell from the OVA and manga is the most the two have ever done in terms of "physical relationships" is kiss Smile

Psychoanalyzing myself, the best analogy (for me anyway) is like rooting for a football team. I whine about it because I want to know that my team wins in the end.

I never suggested anyone force anything. Or are you referring to the sunscreen lotion that one of her sisters concocted?
As for that and the drinking scene mentioned by someone above - I don't approve of chemical alteration of judgement. But the sunscreen lotion still sounds like a worthy subplot that I regret having missed.

The following opinion is beyond the scope of this message board, but I don't think romance would exist without sexuality, in fact I think human emotions would be quite unrecognizable without it and I don't know that we would socialize much at all. Have you ever read Foundation and Earth? Terrible book but one planet visisited was inhabited by dual-gender (I know there's a word for that) humanoids who never interacted with anyone face to face besides their own offspring.

My opinion is not inflexible. After reading the messages here I see what is missing is not sex in their relationship per se, but the sense of victory that their relationship has finally been consumated.

I want to ask. Have you ever read the manga? From what it looks like, you're totally judging your opinions off of the really lame OVAs and the movie. You're really missing a lot if you don't read the manga. It's almost different from the anime version (except for the Mini-Goddess series) in general feel. The OVAs really chop out a lot of the fun humorous side of AMG! which the Mini-Goddess series has in spades. The Mini-Goddess series, by the way, is just the goddesses in superdeformed versions interacting with a rat in little eight-minute episodes.

If you haven't read the manga, then your opinion of Ah! My Goddess is completely flawed. Yes, there's the big relationship with Keiichi and Belldandy, but it's not completely about that, and there's way more material that you haven't seen that totally fleshes out why Keiichi and Belldandy's relationship is such.

As far as your ideas on how relationships work, that's up to opinion. If that's how you see AMG!, then fine. But you really have to read the manga if you want to get the whole cute and innocent side of things. Keiichi may have some sexual feelings for Belldandy, but he'll never cross that line until the time is right and Belldandy lets it happen. Again, I suspect that will finally happen when the manga ends, just like Maison Ikkoku.

Keiichi came close to consummating his relationship with Belldandy once, when Belldandy was acting especially sexual, but he realized that Belldandy was under the influence of something which was making her act unlike herself, and he decided it wasn't right.

Apart from that, I think the closest Keiichi has ever come to being sexual with one of the Goddesses was when Peorth grabbed "him" in order to "arouse him" from his slumber, but he wasn't "in her hands" long enough to have any real effect other than startling him awake.

But, you know, I can see pretty much every possible male x female and female x female combination between characters from the manga in doujins, so I don't ever need to see sex in the canon manga.
