I would have to say my favourite anime-based video game would have to be the 4th Naruto fighting game for the Nintendo Gamecube. I imported it from Japan. It's such a fun experience. It's an amazing game but it lives up to it's full potential when your playing with 3 friends. The single-player gets boring once you've collected all the characters.

One Piece Grand Battle. Has all your favorite characters in them and you get to beat each other up Super Smash Bros style!

One Piece Grand Battle is pretty swank, it plays a lot like Ehrgeiz...

I guess I'd have to go with Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage, it was so badass to swing around the Dragonslayer. I've been meaning to import (or download, whatever comes first) Berserk: Millennium Falcon Hen Seima Senki no Shou, that looks soooooooooo sweet...

That game is awesome. A friend of mine imported it and brought it over to another friend's house and I was amazed at how well it combined elements of both the anime and manga. Not sure if it will ever be ported for a U.S. release though...

The only other anime to game title I really like is DBZ Budokai 3. It captures the essence of the fighting to near perfection, though the voice acting and story mode could've been better (more so the voice acting, I don't think I'll ever come to accept those voices Mad).

I have a couple of anime based games that I really enjoy.

I am one of the few Narultimate Hero fans. NH3 isn't only a great game but also one of the best fighting games I've played. I've played GNT3 and 4 and I don't think either one of them measures up (counters are given and it's all about that one combo). In NH3 your counters need to be timed. Not only that but in terms of sheer content there's so much more. Heck look at the characters (Hanabi, Konohamaru, the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Hokage!). I don't think GNT can boast those characters. Plus there's the sheer amount of supers each character has. Bottom line, GNT comes off as being a rather simple game while NH3 is a more technical depth game. I think people enjoy GNT because it's 4 player while NH is relegated 2. Anyway NH3 has a great fighting system, several modes, and if there's anything you like about Naruto, it's in there.

Gundam games are usually hit or miss, but I gotta give credit to Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam. Sure the system itself isn't the best, but the presentation of it is nothing short of top notch. Full voice acting, detailed models of the MS (pretty much every single one is in there from the original and Zeta), a pretty decent VS mode, and the host of extras. Even though it wasn't a great series, the fact that they gave players Judau along with ZZ Haman and both Purus, along with Double Zeta as a playable unit is definitley a great extra for those willing to obtain it. If you're a fan of Gundam (especially Zeta), there's a lot to enjoy. Speaking of Gundam games there's also SD Gundam Generations, but that leads me into what is probably my favorite game series based on a manga/anime...

Super Robot Wars (Taisen)! You talk about a great work of fanfiction. Not only did Banpresto just take about every major robot and put them in one game, but they even are able to make this crossover giant make sense! In every game they're always able to unite everyone under one overarching story that is even more epic that the stories of the star robots themselves. As for the game itself, I'm willing to say that their strategy system is genius and a masterpiece (I think Breath of Fire used a similar system, whether or not it came before I don't know, but if it did props to that series). A simple strategy system that has constantly been built on, and the level of micromanagement is just enough to get really into without it being too much. But the one thing that makes this game really soar is Banpresto's attention to detail. The animations (to the best of the hardware's ability depending on which game you're playing) are almost stripped straight out of the anime. Every single nuance that every robot has they incorporate. Banpresto was even nice enough to give us original robots as the series went on. Usually their originals are rather impressive and sometimes can outshine the star bots (personal favorite being my avatar DaiRaiOh). It's a great game series and if you like mecha series or maybe even just one mecha series, if you find a SRW with them in it then you'll definitley enjoy it.

I'll stick with my pokemon. If it wasn't for the game, the anime series for the later seasons would probably have done worse. It's a good game because it had virtually endless enjoyability due to the battle modes and the trading, and the chances of a ultra rare pokemon to appear. It still is fun, if I didn't somehow lose my saved files....

Best ever has to be Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 (or maybe 3, 4 had more stuff, but the menus were junked up a bit).

Other good liscensed games:

Jump Super Stars (DS)
Dragon Ball Bukuu Tougeki (GBA)
Flame of Recca (GBA)
Macross Plus (PS1)

Definitely the original Berserk game for the Dreamcast. It's what got me into the anime and the manga. Very Happy

Just be sure to import it, because the US version only has the awful 4kids dub. If you can't import it and you're really itchin' to play it, rent it first, hit the mute button, pop the Japanese One Piece soundtrack in your stereo and shout the attack names yourself. "Tatsumaki!!" Razz

For the people who have mentioned Pokemon, the anime was based on the video games, not the other way around. So it wouldn't belong in this thread.

As for my favorite anime based video game... none. I've yet to play a video game based on an anime and liked it. If it were video games that have been made into anime I would be able to name quite a few though...

I would have to say Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 for the GameCube. I haven't played the latest game in the series, but not much of difference, just some other (insignficant AFAIC) characters in the series, but 3 has just about every character that I think anyone really cares about. And right now the price (40 compared to 65) is a steal as far as I'm concerned. Great thing about GameCube is that you don't need a mod chip to play imported games, all you need is a boot disc.

I'm not really that into fighting games (played just about all the top titles in the genre, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Dead or Alive, etc) and not even exagerating, but Naruto:GNT is hands down the most fun I've ever had with a fighting game. The controls are really easy to pick up and just play from the first try, but the gameplay overall is so well balanced, that it definiately takes alot skill to master. It also features all of the familar japanese voice actors from the television series, so everything feels in place. Also plenty of translation guides/FAQs, so you can get the full experience Smile

I gotta say the best games i have played based on a Anime are
1. Zone of the enders : 2nd runner
the game combines epic gameplay along with great anime cut secnes and some amazing English voice acting, a definite A+

second on the list is the sorta newly released Tales of Legendia.
THe game screams wow. Its like an anime. Its got it all, the music, graphics and character designs. Also some pure anime cut secnes, but haven't seen so many of them, but i am sure there are more in it.

I am gonna say DON'T try Maple Story due to the simple fact that it's incredibly terrible. I wasted days of my life on it that I will never get back.

I wanted to try One Piece Grand Battle but I heard it wasn't that great. Since you guys have such high thoughts of it I'll check it out. I also saw an advertisement for a Naruto RPG. It looks good but it's import only and I can't understand anything but english. Have any of you played it?

I'm assuming that the Naruto RPG is the GBA one. It's ok. As far as basic enemies it's usually variations on the same few just colorerd differently (with maybe a few new ones depending on the level). My only issue with it, was that there was too much concentration on leveling. So basically most of your time is spent leveling up (it's a very standard RPG) getting ready for the boss and usually that can take a few hours. However it does stay faithful and you'll probably enjoy it if you like Naruto and classic RPGs. If you enjoy the process of level up cycle then you'll think it's a good game. For me it just got repetetive personally.

Now if you're talking about the tactical Naruto RPG. That's a differnet game entirely. Personally I didn't care for it, in part because it was very complicated and knowing very little Japanese it was hard to navigate through the game. Also the game played too slow for Naruto in my opinion. I'd only reccommend this one to the Japanese inclined.
