So I recently went through volumes 1,2,3 and 6 of Love Hina (and episode summaries of the other 2 volumes), and was surprised that I actually liked this series. I'm not a big fan of romantic comedies, specially in anime, and the only one I had seen entirely was Chobits, but Love Hina had me hooked.
I do admit that some of the antics began to get a little too repetitive. At one point, in one episode actually, I found myself wondering how many times Naru was going to fall on top Keitaro. He also got punched so many times that it became predictable after the first few slugs. But then the mystery of each character's past became to get to me and that's when I just couldn't stop watching. The turtle was a really entertaining addition and I couldn't keep my eyes off of it, even when other characters were talking, because I was just hoping for it to do something funny. Towards the end the story just revolved around the same premise, Keitaro and the mystery girl, which became a really quick race to the finish which felt really unfinished. Can anyone tell me if spoiler[Kei and Naru get together] in any of the specials? I know the specials box sets have been announced so I'm really hoping to pick them up, but only if they have a definitive ending since the original left me disappointed. What are your thoughts on Love Hina, the TV series and the Specials? I know I can just check the ratings, but they don't go in depth on how people feel of the series. Maybe what some people dislike, is what others look for. |

Yes. spoiler[Kei and Naru do get together and eventually even get married: http://animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=6505]
Love Hina was good, nothing special imo. Even though it was one of my earlier harem series it never really stood out to me as that great so I don't get why some people are crazy about this anime. The Christmas special was the best one imo. |

If you hadn't guessed, I really do like Love Hina--it was the first non-Sailor Moon anime I ever bought, and it's still one of my favorites. Granted, some of the comedy is repetitive, and Keitarou isn't a very likeable character (like most harem comedy male leads), but I really like the contrasts between over-the-top comedy/parody and the occasional tender/sad/romantic scene. The parodies of video games and other anime are also worth watching, and the girls, in addition to visual appeal, all have some sort of funny/interesting/sympathetic side to them. LH was also my first manga, as I wanted to discover more of the story. |

I've actually been picking up those volumes used, and since they have no cover, I burned them and returned them, kind of like renting. Which is why I plan on getting the specials. Those were the only volumes available so I said "what the hell I'll check it out".
I know the specials were already out, but not at such an affordable price. So does the spoiler[marriage of Kei and Naru] happen in the specials, or was it just in the creator's blog? I don't want to read the summaries for the specials since I plan on picking them up, but I want to know if they actually contain them spoiler[atleast confessing their love to each other and actually being a couple]. |

I share the same opinion as PantsGoblin on this series. Not anything special, even though I haven't watched many anime (I counted them - 42 without counting Yu-Gi-Oh and $h17). And it wasn't even much fun. It is the definition for the "not bad, but not good either" phrase.
I especially hated Su that didn't make any sense at all. She is just not related to the anime imo. Ruins it up even more. Moreover, after some point (pretty early too...) the 'jokes' were getting repetitive, that annoyed me as well. It had its good point too though... (a few). The Christmas Special was one of the best 'episodes' of the whole Love Hina 'saga' imo too. |
