Until now I have been only saving my favorite Animes in HDD but recently an old one of 500GB broke up. So now I was going to buy several series in BR but I have made a list of maybe 20-25 titles and like you have probably guess thats a lot of money, we are talking about 500€ more or less.
Therefore because these are not the only titles that for me would be in "my collection" I would still have to buy a lot more and that's even more money.
So after this, I thought to myself I could just buy some Bay Raid Station and put inside several 2 or 3TB HDD and build little by little my own digital 1080p titles of 50-60GB each one. And of course this solution would be much cheaper.
The only doubt that comes to mind is if after some years all this hard drives will still be functional. What do you think?
Greetings

Agreed. A relative few titles are available for digital download. So your only LEGAL option (and, thus, the only one we can discuss here) would be buying DVDs or BD.

Ahh, the blatantly obvious, yet so often overlooked peril of the digital age; you can (and probably will, at some point) lose everything in an instant for no reason whatsoever.
Anyway, anime is pretty much the only thing I buy hard copies of (everything else, I either watch on Netflix, or DVR when it airs on tv). I probably purchase about a dozen or so series every month (both blu ray and dvd). It is indeed expensive, and once you get the buying bug, your purchasing itch tends to outpace your viewing scratch. I'm lucky enough, though, to make pretty good money through my career, so I have a decent budget to allot to miscellaneous odds and ends (approximately 80% of which consists of anime these days).
Anime releases are different from other forms of media though, IMO. Mainly, you have so many different versions of some titles (art boxes, special/limited editions, rare and out-of-print releases, etc.) that are fun to hunt down and try and find the best prices on. Aside from actually containing the product itself, these different releases also add a highly collectible aspect to the experience, making your purchases much more sentimental and meaningful than, say, a DVD/blu ray season of any number of random tv shows with nothing special or unique to them.

I buy anime blu-rays
AND PUT THEM ON MY home server / NAS
I store my anime collection in a little cabinet and it's a pain in the ___ to take them out.
i prefer everything instantly accessible and I may want to watch on my laptop sometimes
I guess in this day and age we are spoiled
I like to have everything at my finger tips
