And CN's animators show off how much they "know" anime by parodying Eva.

(From the network that taught a generation they "knew" anime just from watching Cowboy Bebop and Death Note!
From the network that gave you the Totoro episode of Samurai Jack!) Razz

Nothing's funnier than the original opening considering those lyrics are supposed to be about Shinji.

That was so so so very ridiculous but at the same time was so so so very funny to watch (even if it was pirated).

Well...At least they are paying homage to Evangelion.
I just learned not too long ago that the creator of Regular Show just happens to be a fan of Evangelion; hence, this parody of it.

Hmmm...didn't see anything reminiscent of EVA in that parody, unless there was something I missed.

Kinda of interesting to see such a parody in a american cartoon not really interested in Regular Show itself.

The opening credit sequence right at the beginning of the episode featured a number of shot-for-shot recreations of bits from EVA's opening. If you've seen EVA's OP before, they should've been pretty obvious.

That is amazing. Regular Show never fails to go the extra mile for a joke.

A small step up from a parody of Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Speed Racer, or Pokemon, at least. Though expecting substantial references to anime that didn't air on American TV is pretty slim. I have to wonder how many hardcore fans of anime would even work in the western industry if they liked anime so much.

Show creators express love of the animation of their youth, kids on the internet are cynical about it.

AND THE CYCLE CONTINUES.

Its not like its the first CN cartoon to make an obscure anime shout out.

Hell, Steven Universe parodied the infamous "Congratulations!" scene from Eva.
