Noticed that there's eBay listings for the Japanese Blu-ray set of Devil Hunter Yohko. That got me to thinking why there hasn't been a North American BD release. I remember the OVAs being popular in the VHS era and even have the initial two part DVD release from ADV Films.
ADV still exists as a company on paper, right? Do they still have any licenses for their old OVA catalog? If not, I'm assuming the rights reverted to Toho.

Actually, ADV was reborn as Sentai. I'm sure they wouldn't have retained the rights. Your best bet for a NA Blu-ray release would probably be through Discotek.

If "ADV" still had it, we definitely would've gotten a Sentai or Maiden Japan DVD release by now, even if it was just a clone of the old ADV release - looks like it was last released in 2008, it expired from The Anime Network's streaming portal in 2010, and hasn't been seen since.

For a long time there were still one or two specific Sentai releases under the ADV Films label. I think Lady Death was/is one of them. I'd assume it was some weird rights holdover from the messy way that ADV folded and transformed into Sentai.

Rights reverted to Toho a long time ago and given recent moves from Toho (investing more in International branch, buying out GKids, self-distribution of certain movies, anime & Godzilla), don't expect Discotek to get it either.

yeah, I’ve wondered the same thing. adv’s old catalog has been a bit messy over the years. most of their licenses either reverted back to the original japanese companies or were picked up by other distributors. for something like devil hunter yohko, it’s likely that the rights went back to toho, which would explain why there hasn’t been a North American Blu-ray release yet. It’s a shame, since the ovas definitely deserve a proper release.

Looking up the Japanese Blu-ray's info, it was released in July 2022. Assuming a North American Blu-ray is ever released, it'll probably be at least a few more years to prevent reverse importation.
