Personally even if they told him he'd probably say, "Great." and then move on.

This doesn't surprise me. This is the guy that stated in an article some years ago that he doesn't revisit his films once their done. Satoshi Kon was another. But Miyazaki...he'll tell you he's not interested. Correct me if I'm wrong.

In the end, despite how revered he is, Miyazaki is still the stereotypical grumpy old guy at times.

Honestly I'm with Miyazaki on this one. Twitter is useless enough in general, but spamming the hell out of one word in some sort of digital rendition of a Rocky Horror midnight airing? No thank you.

Miyazaki apparently doesn't use Twitter. Just saying.

Was Satoshi Kon ever as stubborn as Miyazaki?

It's like a concert with 140,000 people in it! (I guess the Rose Bowl?)

Why would he care, really, if he doesn't even know or care what Twitter is about? It's not that big of a deal.

Does Miyazaki even use a computer? (only half facetious with this question) From all the stories I half imagine that his house hasn't changed since the maybe the 60s or 70s.

Last time I heard he didn't have a computer at his house. Though, for people his age this isn't too uncommong I guess. My father doesn't even have or want one, and he's quite a bit younger than Miyazaki.

I have to side with Miyazaki on this one. I never got into Twitter, and the only time I ever see it is when people post screenshots of examples of how stupid people act on it.

Working with directors myself I can understand why they did that, especially if he's a narcissist as well. It'd be like having to work for and with the Big Baby in Spirited Away afterwards. I can only imagine what he was liike after he came home with the Oscar. Wink

I mean, it's cute, but it's also not as huge as it seems. I can see Miyazaki appreciating the love CitS gets, but also (rightly, imo) viewing it as such a minor thing.

Also, I think people should keep in mind how different cultures are. For a while (and now to a point), computers (and internet to an extent) aren't as huge a deal as they are in the West. Miyazaki not owning a computer isn't that special, as a Japanese person living in Japan. That can't be compared to the older people in other countries. (But heck, plenty of older people in the US don't own computers or bother with technology, unless it's for the sake of keeping up with family.)

There's no reason to take this article as a chance to bash Miyazaki. ^u^;

I see some incredibly rapid smartphone adoption though, to where I haven't seen anyone but me pull out a dumbphone in over a year.

My Nokia clamshell says Hi. This is known as a "feature" phone here in Blighty. Best feature on it is the ON/OFF button. Wink
