Hmm not sure how to feel about this yet.
I just hope they don't go too original on this and there's plenty to adapt. Looking forward to it though as I've been a fan of this series.

"Spinoff"
Really? It's a full-blown sequel.

We wrote "spinoff" (it can be described either way) in the headline so people unfamiliar with the story would not get the impression that UQ Holder! centers on Negi.

I hope this is a more faithful adaptation then the 2 Negima series. Hopefully this does well enough that they decide to make a new Negima series.

Negima was just kinda a train wreck with the adaptations they did skipping 100chapters and making 1scene for 1chapter etc specialy when things got finnaly good they just rushed that part...>_>

To be honest, this seems like it will not be very successful to fans. I mean, it makes little sense if you haven't read Negima entirely. Plus, every attempt at an anime adaptation of Negima ended up with an alternate ending (which were basically all the same), with the exception of the OVAs that came with manga volumes.
So, I'd rather have a full-fledged Negima adaptation before the UQ Holder! adaptation.

You don't have to read Negima to understand it. Negima helps since readers are more familiar with returning characters but it's in no way necessary.

I've never read Negima and had never watched the anime until I started reading UQ Holder, and I had no problem making sense of the story. The only you miss are connections to Negima characters and really at this point that doesn't even matter all that much.
Considering this is currently in serialization and Negima is not there is very little chance that you will get another Negima adaption unless this does well (and even then still little chance, as it would likely just mean more seasons of this)

I'm happy it's finally getting an anime; I'm wondering how far it plans to go?
Like others have said, knowing Negima gives a bit of context for returning characters, but until the most recent couple chapters it wasn't really necessary (and even now, it would only give you a "wow; THAT GUY's back" moment). I actually started reading Negima after UQ Holder, and I didn't really feel lost or anything. I feel that UQ Holder has potential to be the better overall series.
I'm not sure what to think about the move the manga's making, though. So it's moving to a monthly magazine after taking a 4 month break? Ok, I guess. Part of me wants to hope that the move will mean Akamatsu doesn't need to include the jarring and unnecessary fan service these last several chapters had, but let's be honest- Akamatsu probably loves putting that stuff in.

I hope Crunchyroll Manga is going to keep putting the chapters out once it changes magazines.
