I feel like this article should probably mention the fact that Yoshiyuki Sadamoto was one of the character designers for Nadia

My thoughts exactly. I know finishing the Evangelion manga is a more recent thing he's done, but even if you don't describe him as "Nadia character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto", at least mentioning it would be pretty relevant.

Ugh, why is my beautiful tanned Nadia pale in this artwork?! But nevertheless, that's one good art!

More artwork by Sadamoto is always welcome.

I could have swore he was the original designer of Nadia but I guess I could be wrong.

Oh Nadia, my dear Nadia, my childhood. I can't remember how many times I saw the anime when it was airing in China back in 2000. Now that I think about it, it always slightly bothered me that Nadia is not a big thing as Evangelion here in the West.

That made me sad as well, even more so at how many people aren't aware that the show exists, excluding that old promo ADV would put on some of their VHSs.
I remember when a con I went to had a Jeopardy game show, and one of the questions was Nadia (category was anime involving or based around water/ocean/sea). I was in the audience, and the only person in a 200+ packed room who knew the answer when it came for the audience's turn to answer the question. Man, did that bum me out...and make me feel old, haha.

At least one of my friends, who is a HUGE fan of Evangelion, enjoyed the show when I suggested it to her. She really got a kick out of the later "post-island" episodes in the series.

Nadia has one of the best openings in anime history. But the actual show's animation is....lackluster in some places.

I gain the impression that Anno's hands were bound when directing it to a certain extent, and I recall reading information to such an extent. Nadia has some utterly brilliant episodes that demonstrate the framing and compositional techniques that became Evangelion's forte, along with some moments as tender as anything Anno is capable of, though there were many sections, principally the escapades on Red Noah and in Africa, that were so incongruous as to seem unwillingly tacked-on to stall for time.
If I may be so bold as to conjecture, it would not surprise me if the ending, wholly satisfying though it was, had been less daring than what Anno would have opted for had there not been prior arrangements in place. Perhaps the resulting lack of boldness ensured that Nadia remained exemplary within its genre, though without quite being as ground-breaking within its medium as Eva.

One of my first crushes back in the early teen years. I own it on every format. Its pretty crappy yes, but nostalgia keeps it close.

Crappy? Nadia's great. Awesome, spritied sense of adventure, great direction and music, excellent and fun characters, interesting and vaguely fresh story, and it carries succeeds in drama, humour or quieter character moments throughout. I mean, apart from the island arc, obviously. Those episodes aside, I found it good in just about every way.

IIRC, NHK owns the Nadia IP with Gainax as work-for-hire, but Gainax later grew to hate working for NHK on it. So don't expect anything out of it.
