I viewed copyright laws in the U.S and they state that titles are not protected under copyright. I want to be sure before making a fool of myself or getting into trouble. I made a card game that is all text (no art), and the game includes anime references (for example: "nine tails"). So my question, if I use my own design in font and even the color is completly different from the Naruto logo (name itself). Can I add this title to my box if it is being sold?

I doubt you're going to get any definitive answers unless there's a copyright lawyer lurking around somewhere.

Copyright isn't the only legal regime that may apply. Many characters are trademarked, and trademark law is an entirely different animal from copyright law. Whether particular phrases are also trademarked will require some serious, and likely expensive research.

As someone who sells anime/game-related/inspired crafts, you're better off not. At best, it'll be seen as a bootleg or knockoff. At worst, you run afoul of trademark issues (yes, the names are trademarked). "Nine tails," on the other hand, is Japanese mythology, so you're likely safe there.

My crafts, for example, are inspired by Zelda's bottles. But my "fairy jars" and "potion candles" don't have anything specifically relating to Zelda in the name or on the sign (they're sold on consignment).

Publishing firm Kōdansha has registered 'Shima Kohsaku' and 'Kachō Shima Kohsaku' (the protagonist's name/title of a well-known manga about the business world) as trademarks with the Patent Office.
I would not be surprised even if the rightsholders of the Naruto manga/anime have registered 'Naruto' as a trademark (not only in Japan but also in foreign countries).
