HOW was any of E3 underwhelming? Especially enough to mention in an article as if it's a generally conclusion.
There's nothing to complain about Xbox, PS, or Capcom so...sorry if you don't care about those but what did you expect out of Nintendo or the rest of the companies? Nintendo released all their best series last year and Besethda and Ubisoft are doing their typical titles. What else COULD you expect?

I was fine with Nintendo doing Smash just because that was the game everyone was talking about and they had more throughout the week. It's like how a few years ago Breath of the Wild was the centerpiece around their E3 and that was the big game everyone ended up talking about.

As for everything else, MS was okay but came off a little too much like they were desperate to be liked. Sony was just showing off which led to weird pacing in the beginning (though the guy who played the shakuhachi is actually an officially recognized master of the instrument, which is pretty cool). Bethesda was like MS in that they were trying to act liked and humane, but it came off as awkward (especially with Howard's bad jokes). Devolver Digital was amusing, but enough with the MAGA parodies, they're not funny (for many, MANY reasons) As for games I'm interested in:

-DMC5: It's just great seeing Nero again and displaying a sense of excitement and thrill that only Bayonetta has really displayed in the game's industry as of late (well, outside of Nintendo). Heck, Nero rides his own rocket punch like a skateboard! I pray that motorcycle Dante rides in on is one of his Devil Arms and he uses it to peel out on enemies.

-SSB: Duh (though let us mourn for Snake's posterior)

-Soul Calibur 6: Need to play my man Siegfried again

-Doom Eternal: -loads Super Shotgun-

-Wolfenstein: Youngblood: -sharpens hatchet- My only hesitation is mentioning "co-op" since historically that's led to awkward design

-Ghost of Tsushima: Looks neat, but I want to know more about the story (though I am aware the overarching plot has to deal with the 1274 Mongol Invasion, which had a kind of hilarious ending)

-Starlink: I'm always up for space battles, especially with a Starfox cameo

-Nioh 2: Hopefully they cut some of the fat and work on the level design

-Spider-Man: Arkham Asylum: And no, that is not a dig, they've been honest about that.

-Fire Emblem: Three House: If they're essentially doing Fates again (i.e. multiple viewpoints) but just in one cartridge I'm completely fine with that. I'm also interested in how the troops thing will influence combat

-Octopath Traveler: Loved the demo and really like the multiple storylines idea.

-Valkyria Chronicles 4: It's been too long

-Daemon x Machina: It's like Armored Core with a less dreary art style.

-Yakuza Kiwami 2: Majima!

-Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise: Roses are red, violets are blue, omae wa mo, shindeiru

-RE2: Man, what happened to Leon (Yuu Asakawa agrees)? Also, feels weird to see Claire without her signature red cutoffs-black spats combo.

I wanted to play Metal Wolf Chaos since Sugita and Nakamura played it in Tokyo Encounter episode 17. I hope this port becomes good. Since it is an old XBox game, it shouldn't require a lot of memory space.

There are many fans of Waluigi, I have recently learned. Some illumination might be achieved by considering their perspective of the event.

My only hope. as unlikely as it is, is that Devolver Digital will allow those few who have OG Xbox copies of Metal Wolf Chaos to simply pop in their discs & allow them to download MWC Anime hyper to play, as long as they have the disc, ala the backward compatible game. It wouldn't even technically be the first time existing owners can "upgrade", as putting in an Xbox disc for GTA: San Andreas will start a download for the 360 version of the game, instead of downloading the OG Xbox version.

Considering how rare & expensive the OG disc for MWC is now, I doubt it would eat into Devolver Digital's hopes for profit for the Anime hyper version, and it would be a neat option.

E3 in general is a very outdated concept. It was established in the pre-internet days where companies had to rely on magazines and maybe newspapers to report on upcoming stuff to the general public. These days there was much easier ways to do that. Nintendo, usually criticized for being behind on the times, actually was the first to just abandon E3 in favor of the more consumer-focused Direct format. You still see it in their presentations. They don't waste time touting people playing the banjo or shakuhachi for five minutes, or having to cut to some guys behind a desk to waste time for a ten minute intermission as Sony ushers people to a complete other room because their presentation was more like a stage show than a video game presentation. They focused entirely on the games, and going into meticulous detail they knew Smash fans would actually care about like the various tweaks to each fighter.

As usual, I'd say Nintendo did the best because they always focus on the games. I suppose they could have done better; they could have pushed their announcement of Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee a few weeks and do it at E3 to showcase another huge game, but they didn't, and I don't see a problem with that. E3 is mostly for investors and PR relations these days.
