Poor Shinji. I know a lot of people hate him, so these results don't surprise me (well, except for the aforementioned number gap which seems to be from how informal the poll is), but I'll always like him for being such a realistic take on a teen with depression.
I like Asuka and Kaworu too, but Shinji gets a lot of hate in general despite how the majority of NGE is about him, lol. |

I thought Shinji was actually popular in Japan considering some other polls from the magazine Newtype. From what I get it, Shinji tends to get more hate in the west for his depression and because he is not a macho guy like Domon or Heero who can do anything regardless of danger. I remember that the MC of Zone of the Enders got this hate during an official IGN review of the game. |

Holy cow. At first glance, I was like, "There's nothing surprising about Asuka and Kaworu placing high," and then I saw the difference in votes between 2nd and 3rd.
Given how divisive 3.0 was and how long 4.0 is taking to come out, I'm curious how well the final installment in the Rebuild film franchise will do when all is said and done. |

And as for that other giant robot series with a "Fire girl vs. Ice girl vs. Boy" harem... I wish "Ice Girl" were this far behind in that one lol. The boy in that one has the deepest relationship with the main character, though...
Well, that one will be decided this weekend. (In Evangelion, Ice Girl is his mom; in the other series, Ice Girl slept with his mom) |
