I hope we get these OVAs in the west sometime, preferably before season 2 starts.

Yes. OVA is mainly just another branding for animated film that meant designate something not being part of the original broadcast.

I think it would make sense to have it first be released on DVD/BD to adhere to the idea original VIDEO animation, but a I see theatrical release as still being an OVA.
