One neat little touch to the anime, for all its budget problems, is that when Wall sets a timer for himself to beat Laxus in 90 seconds, the whole sequence actually plays out for 90 seconds in real time before the timer goes off.
It was a nice change of pace from all the other scenes in media, including this series, where timers slow down, speed up, or pause purely for the convenience of the scene. It's fine if you're looking to get into the moment itself regardless of the time, but it's so very easy to milk it for all the pathos it's worth that no amount of suspension of disbelief can account for it.
