I get why they feel the need to mention Evangelion and Anno so much, they repeat those details more than they mention the Nadia name. But it is misleading.
Gainax bid too low on the cost of making Nadia and being forced to make it at a loss nearly destroyed Gainax as a company. Anno and Gainax also had no ownership on the property so they could not make money back on merchandise or video sales.
Anno also had only limited creative control and reportedly resented being forced to make the show. This is also reportedly why he has been so sure to own both the properties like Evangelion and also keep creative control.
So it is more correct to say Nadia is where Anno got schooled on how not to do business, learned from it, and did not make the same mistakes again.
Nadia IS a mostly great show. Except for the 13 desert island filler episodes. New audiences will now learn why mere mentions of those episodes still cause shivers years later.
The last DVD version sold in NA also had a great transfer and a superb dub, except for Jean, who was awful. Hope GKIDS keeps that dub around. And this is from someone who does not like dubs. They nailed matching some of the voices back to the Japanese casting and earned nothing but my respect.
